Yeah so55b thats what I was leaning towards doing.
Got 68 programs so far (57 anesthesia 11 prelim)
Any idea if we apply to both advanced and categorical at the same program does it count as 1 or 2 programs? (fee wise)

nice thread guys, have the same inquiry about categorical vs advanced. Do you think it will be a good idea to apply to categorical only?

trying this out for the 2nd time around

232/251/Pass , all 1st attempts
US Citizen IMG, YOG 2012
Currently a PGY-1 (preliminary) in Internal Medicine (NYC)

It's discouraging that you were not able to match with those great creds.

yes, I got a grand total of 2 IVs last year. Anesthesiology is definitely competitive but definitely not impossible for IMGs.

i m hoping that my ACGME preliminary residency in IM makes me more competitive this year.

Default help

Will it be difficult to get the match without experience as anesthetist in my country and without research or publications as many of you ? Will it be difficult to get the match with excelents results in the Steps (maybe above 235-245 I think), a couple of month of USCE and a couple of LORs? I plan to prepare to apply in 2015. Thaks a lot!!

I don't know if their anesth program sponsors visa, but for Ob/Gyn program, they sponsor their residents. I don't know if the individual dept has different regulations or if pertains to the entire hospital.

Agreed. Based on last year's thread, looks like we shouldn't expect any invites until October...think they give interview spots to USMG's first, then us

Has anyone heard back from prelim programs??

Haven't heard from any prelims per se except I paid 26 useless dollars for an app to Brooklyn Hospital Center who withdrew their prelim positions from NRMP. This should AT LEAST be accompanied by a refund.
Otherwise, ack from Lincoln Health who said "don't email us, we received 4000 apps and will have answers for you by 10/20."

I've received 2 preliminary med IV thus far. But no anesthesia yet. Hopefully October is a big month. Also, anyone attending ASA conference in New Orelans in a couple weeks? All the best!

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

US-IMG Step 1:206 (yikes), Step 2 CK: 247, CS: Pass. All first attempt.

1 Rejection Wayne State (Anes),
1 Invite Loyola (Anes),
1 Invite Mt Sinai Chicago (PM)

Do most people have Anes. experience in the US?

Have you guys seen the spreadsheet on studentdoc, it's mainly AMG's but it's good to know when letters come out from which hospital.

Hopefully next week will bring in more traffic now that Dean's letters have been released. You all have good scores so stay positive!

I'm just wondering when Ill hear back from Prelims? I probably have to wait until my CK is released.. I hope I don't hear rejections from my top schools before then!

Interview at Advocate Illinois Masonic ... useless since they had no interview spots. Any information how this works? I'm on a waitlist for an interview date?

@knockout: heard about that happening- as long as the program knows, don't worry- they'll contact you when they have a date open. I think a lot of USMG's schedule a bunch of interviews in the beginning, but cancel later through the season. Everyone I know last year got an interview off of a waitlist. So congrats!!

Thanks CaribIMG, that is reassuring to hear. I definitely have been beating myself up about this all day I do hope that it works out, there are 24 people who have waitlisted themselves on various days! Keeping my fingers crossed for myself as well as everyone else.
