Default What are my chances?? Suggestion need!

Hello Everyone!
I am an IMG, I want all of your opinions about my situation..I know that my chances are pretty small, but I just don't want to give up..my step 1 score is 198 (1st attempt), step 2 CK 204 (1st attempt), step 2 CS (2nd attempt), need visa. YOG: 4 year. I have 2 month observership, and doing MPH as well. I want to apply FM and Pediatrics. Is there anyone who can give me advice for my situation by any chance? Thank you very much in advance!

Chances are slim but not impossible . If you have contacts you maybe able to get a few interviews and then it all depends on whether they are impressed with you or not

It will be very hard but not impossible. Your best bet would be to make a lot of contacts because that is how you can get interviews.

Yes I agree with last two replies... You need to work hard.. I won't say make contacts as it's not something everyone has but yes find someones I mean any one from ur med school ur relatives distant relatives their contacts ... I know it's tough but get its worth it... And apply widely... Doing MPH and obsies are ur positives.. Don't stop as it's worth every shot .you have come so far and you don't want to surrender now. So buddy be hopeful and play ur chances... Cause if I say save ur money coz u are not going to have Ivs is like I know everythings which is not the case ... Try once and for all... Today I meet a guy from India who didn't match last year despite having 8 Ivs but got matched this year with 4 Ivs. So no one is sure and confident that they are gonna match until the match day... So gud luck friend... I hope U will do great but u need some real work yes more than anybody here..

Default need opinion too

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I need opinions regarding my chances of mathcing in IM. This is what I have:

Step 1:209 first attempt.
step 2cs: pass, first attempt.
Step 2Ck: 245 first attempt
(All 3 taken on 2014)
Step 3 in december
Two months of USCE, one in Mass General and one Brighams.
2 US LOR 1 local
1 publication in a local university journal
ECFMG certified.
YOG 2014
Need visa.

What type of programs should I be applying for? Do I have any chance at an university program?

There is a list on the usmle.org regarding the step 1 scores... You barely have a passing score and your first attempt will be on your record... hospitals would rather choose someone who had a over average score on the first time than someone who did it a second time and had a great score... You would have to get an OVER THE TOP score... Check that list just so you get an idea.. Plus according to the new score needed to pass you failed the exam. I suggest you plan on going to the states AFTER doing a RESIDCENCY ON YOUR COUNTRY, I think that's your best BEST choice. :/

why don't you encourage the guy and give him hope better than suggesting such suggestions, I know people whom matched with such score, nothing worse than failure except giving up.

Thank you for your comment... I will definitely try FM... But to be honest, I don't think I would able to put my interest at Psy specialty...but I believe that Psy is great specialty though... I am just thinking that can I be a doctor at this specialty..... Just confusing Thanks again

Thank you for the suggestion... I am sure that residency in states is much more competitive these years because of many more AMG are graduating.. and influx of a lot IMG as well.. but my friends who were trying match last year, some of them didn't get matched, some are over 235+ and others are above 240+....I believe that they have much more opportunities out there rather than me... therefore, there is no doubt that my chances are much far far beyond the probabilities.... Somehow, all of your suggestions would be kept in my note.. Thank you again for your input...GOD BLESS YOU ALL...

@ yazz... your words looks like a great medicine to heal my traumatized mind...I know that I was too greedy to had these exams in months apart... actually..I wanted to try last year... but unfortunately I couldn't at that time..
I should have stepped back for a while to prepare my steps to be better..
Now... just only one word "REGRET" .... but No Excuses..
However, just keep in mind by myself the motto of "HOPE for the best, but PREPARE for the worst" at the same time..

GOOD LUCK everything my fri.... you're noted in my diary as well...
Thanks again

Man whats done is done, we have saying in my culture " we are the sons of today not the past nor the future''
what you need to do is :
1- OBTAIN hands on experience.
2-do research
3- get LOR
4- do step 3
if it meant that you give up your sleep do it
what doesn't pay off now it will in the future

I have Research & LoR.. And will have one publication..
Hands on experience.. Do you mean externship? I don't have that.. I have just observership...
