Question What are my chances of getting a good IM residency

Hi guys,
First of all I must congratulate all you people for helping so many people get good residencies. Now its my turn hopefully..hehe
I ve cleared all steps with scores of 256/99, 246/99 and 217/91 on step 1, 2 and 3 resp. i ve cleared step 2cs in the first attempt. First of all I wanted to ask if the lower step 3 score will have a negative effect on my profile. I ve also done 3 months of USCE out of which one month was in Harvard and 2 months with US private practitioners. i ve managed to get 4 LOR's and have waived my right to see 2 of them. I m currently in India but still looking for some more observerships/externships. Please do let me know if doing observerships in sept/oct will add substantially to my profile. And do I have a chance of getting into University level programs or should focus mostly on community level programs. Please reply soon.

Regards
DM

you have excellent scores and I don't think your step 3 score will have any effect. Apply widely to both community and university. you may also apply to otherspecialties as well as neurology and radiology.

goodluck

If you want your application to be processed faster, get the LOR to your hand (without waiving your rights to see it) and when you buy the eras token attach it with other LORs and documents and send it to eras for upload.

If you want it to be waived, you have to wait until you buy your eras token and get your aamc and send them with the cover letter and dsf to the writer who in turn will mention in it that you are waiving your rights to see it and he will send it directly to eras for upload.

Although waived LORs are better in general but I didn't noticed any significant difference last year in the number of interviews which either were getting, so my advice it take it to your hands ASAP and send them to eras on the first occasion when your aamc is set.
