Ok , first of all let me tell you that your chances of getting a visa is much higher when you have a strong motive, going for pleasure or travel is not considered as a motive, so the best option for you will be that you tell them that you have taken USMLE1 and are planning to take STEP2 and CK. in the U.S.
There is also another issue here, sometimes the visa officer tell you to take step2 and apply again for visa .

The best thing to do is to tell them your plans, if you say that you are just going for a visit , then they might reject your visa cause they always ask of the purpose of visit , lets say you answer that i am going to us to realx and meet my uncle , than they might give you a visa for 1 or 2 months , cause no visit or relaxation trip takes longer than a month.
What is your step 1 score . They usually give visa to ppl who score above 85. and sometimes they ask you to take step2 as well and than apply for visa.

Default hi..same issue here

hey everyone just wanted one advice on a visa issue..my husband is a green card holder n us .but he is not working there..waiting for his interview..am giving my step 1 in jan...my mother in law ( a green card holder ) working there said she ill sponsor the visa for me ( b1/b2 ) for visiting my husband..usually u get that for 10 yrs..so during the interview should i mention about my usmle status and just say visit visa or should i drop this idea and apply via usmle way , which i think they wil reject me if they find out my hubby s in us..please help..or any other options ..thanks

hi there...getting visa by telling bout ur plan to take usmle steps is the best way. the interview guy at visa office knows bout usmle..
u can face problem wen u show up at the airport in usa..i went there in oct. 2012 in order to look for observership as well as write cs in dec..they questioned me for an hour..questions:
Q by custom official: y did u come here wen ur exam is in dec?
A: i came early for observership and possible interviews.

Q: show me the invite for interview/observership?
A: i din get yet..

n this goes on and on...

later it depends on the mercy shown by the officer as to wen he feels wat is an apppropriate date of deporting u back.
n then u cant do anything , u hv to go n come back...n waste all the money
