B1 Visa B1/B2 Visa need guidance

Seeing so many rejections lately i want all the helpful members of the forum to help us
let me explain my (our) situation

Male, Old IMG, married, one 5 yr old kid, all family in home country, no relative in US, no travel history.

both me(step1 254/99, CK scheduled for March) and my wife(step1 230/99, CK awaiting result) planning for cs in may2010 on same day

i have a regular job for last 9 months and my wife is not working right now but she will be starting some job in a couple of days. my queries are:-

1. how to apply? both together or differently what are the pros and cons? if we should apply at different times then who should apply first?

2. should we mention travel companions in DS160 or not?

3. we have scheduled the CS on 17 may but we dont have airline bookings or hotel bookings yet. do i need them before interview?

4. how helpful are the hotel bookings for visa acceptance as we can stay at our friends place

5. Any other valuable suggestions from expert members

thanks

Hi Sanndybaba, congratulations and thank you for your post. Me and my girlfriend are also applying for the step 2 CS exam this April and we are confused whether to apply together saying we are a couple or apply separately. We are planning to give step 1 in the USA and step 2 CK as well. We also have a conference paper to present. So will this help us in getting the visa anyway?

We have been to the USA a year back together for elective and both got 1 year visa, and we had appeared for the interview together saying each other as accompanying person. Does our relationship affect the visa anyway?

Which way does it help to increase the chances of getting a visa?

Please help.

Thank you and wish you both the very best.

The interview was usual. Nothing special. Asked us about our job etc.
regaring the step 1you search the forums and decide urself but in my opinion its better to have atleast one step result wiyh u although its not mandatory.

I would like to add that make sure you guys prove that you will come back and you have strong ties back home which is also supported by the fact that u dont have relatives there,no travel history ........ show that u have a job here and that u have to come back and this would be just a visit to US for an exam ........ finally if ur budget allows you get an observership or externship ( there are many companies which can help you with this) and that will be a solid reason for traveling to US like getting up to date with cutting edge medical knowledge ....That's what I would have done ....GL

Help B1 visa still not issued, 9 months passed!

I was accepted to do a 6 weeks elective in Internal Medicine in Temple University.
Went for the B1 visa interview, had everything planned and ready. Answered all VO questions and presented all documents. VO then told me: your visa is accepted but needs further administrative processing and was given a pink/red slip.
It is still under processing for the past 9 months, and unfortunately the elective was cancelled.

Please answer my following questions:
Do you think my visa will ever be issued?
Do you think this will affect my future plans for scoring a residency and going to the states?
Do you think I will be issued pink slips for future visits to the states, whether for visit visas or work visas?

Default [URGENT] Visa for elective

Hello ,
I am a final year medical student from India studying in Nepal . I just got an invitation letter for a 4 week elective this summer . They have advised me to apply for a B1 visa , but when I dug up some information on this visa it appears that it does not entitle one to a certificate / document for the duration of stay .
If I don't get a document to show for my elective doesn't it render it useless ?
Does nobody get any proof of doing an elective after they are done with it on a B1 visa ?
Is there any other visa type I should apply for that would guarantee me a letter/document/certificate to add to my resume ?

Finally which visa did you do your elective and how was your over all experience there ?

Any quick help/response would be highly appreciated since I have really small window to apply for the visa .
