B1 Visas are invariable issued in combination with B2 visa. Therefore it's called B1-B2 Visa. This means, even if you choose B1, they'll issue you B1/B2 Visa, therefore the choice is not really critical.

If you want to be really specific, telling them, that you are going only and only for the CS exam, then you might want to check the B1 option (business).

If you want to tell them that you gonna be doing some tourism as well (which is fine), then you can choose B1/B2 option.

It all depends on what you plan to tell the visa officer.

I see no problems in telling the visa officer that you plan to stay for a week or so to hang around in that city (tourism and pleasure), it makes sense and they'll believe you more.

Bottom line, choose B1/B2 option.

B1-B2 ,,, i had applied for it and so did my friends ,,
it is not a big deal as at the end the counsel will know which one to issue for you . but my advice is to apply for b1-b2.

Guys I have applied again this time taking the assistance of a visa consulting agent. Last time I applied for b1-B2 this time gonna ask that agent what to apply. As soon as I make it this time gonna post exactly how to go about it.

Default Why B1/B2???

If we mention we are going for CS and if VO will ask: "Why you are applying for B1/B2 visa? Why you are not applying for J1 visa?
As B1/B2 visa is for 10 years
and J1 visa for limited duration
Then what should we answer?

J1 Visa is for job
B1/B2 Visa is for visit
When go for the CS exam, you are not going for a job, you are going for a visit to do quick business and come back.

Correct! No J-1 for CS exam. You should apply for B1/B2 for CS. Note: B1 is for business/ conference and B1/B2 is for business and personal. As Step Taker rightly mentioned, go for B1/B2- no problem with that. Here is a thing: you would need your CS confirmation page. The officer might want to see that and if h/she does, and you can't show, prepare to answer promptly that you just applied. Most of the time you would get the B1/B2 for a long duration (5 years minimum). Hope this helps
