B1 Visa Can stay how long on a B1 Visa

Hello friends , I plan to do a six month elective in USA ... I knowit might be difficult to get all in a row , but i want to do atleast six months and then give my step 2 cs before my return back home , i guess which might take a total of 8 months , I have a B1 visa which i had got for a previous elective i did , 1 year back ... so my concern is will i be able to stay for 8 months on the B1/B2 10 year visa that i have ....... becoz after these 8 months , i will have to come back to USA within next 2 months again for interviews in september ... so will i be allowed back in USA for the interviews if stay for 8 months ??? am i allowed to stay for 8 months if i have acceptance letters and step 2 cs exam visa pass ????...... or will it create problem when i come back for interviews ??????

Please friends need your help ...... step taker , Sabio any staff members your advice will be highly appreciated .......

thank you ........

the maximum period you can stay on B1 is 6 months. you can extend it by applying to the US consulate. but i wouldn't recommend it as it lusually eads to problems during the VISA status conversion to either J1 or H1 . good luck!

If I understood correctly, you mean converting from B1 to J1 or H1 will be difficult if your current B1 is longer than 6 months. Could you further clarify why? Thank you.

Ya i know , trying for 4 months , lets see ......... you wont be able to do electives after graduation ie internship ... but will be easier for you since you can go twice for electives once during internship and second time by extending your internship .dont do research electives wont help in IM as they want clinical experience more than research , specially the community hospitals wont care about research as they hardly do any . University like it but we dont get into many so do clincal elective
goodluck

best of luck,bro..u now have step 1 scores too with you and surely will be able to 4 months electives.
And one more thing:does the MCI allows one to withhold one's internship(due to electives of course) and then again give a leave during the second time when applying for the elective??will not my diploma issue get pushed by a year??and when PDs ask about them wud it not be hard to explain them the reason??
please dont take my questions the wrong way,bro..just asking you because i dont know the facts and MCI rules and regulations that well and my college being very conservative will actually have to push them(either by contacts or of course by legal methods)..thats why asking you to be sure..:sorry:

MCI dont come to know about anything It will be great if your graduation moves behind by one year it will help you more , you will appear as a fresh grad .... but make sure you have done atleast 4 to 5 months of total USCE so you can say that six months went in USCE and so your college rule is if you dont complete your internship on time you get your degree extended by one year .. PDs there have no idea about your schooling or rules here . all they care is the date and year on your graduation degree . so do all manipulation possible and get those electives ... goodluck
