Help B1/B2 visa extension issue!!

Hi everyone.
My visa duration expires on this September as I was given a 6 months visa at the port of entry. Now since I will have to stay in the US till the end of this year in order to appear for the interviews, so either I have to go back to my home country and come back or I will have to extend my visa.

I have a couple of questions, hope you guys can help me out.

1) What reason should I give in order to apply for a visa extension?

2) How many months/ weeks before should I apply before?

3) Are there any problems later that I might face due to this extension?

Thanks.

Default Visa extension:

1. The reason would depend on what is your landing status - i.e. B-1 or B-2. If it's B-1 you can request for a tour/holiday/visit to extend.
B-2s are tough to get extensions.

2.The processing time should be checked on Extension of Stay at the USCIS . GOV website and you should file 1 - 2 weeks before the processing time.

3. There may be problems at landing when you file extensions. Especially if this is rejected.

The best action to follow is - go back to India. Fly back in with your First Interview Confirmation and you will be good to go . . .even if you have to come back within a week/month they would let you enter.

Alternatively, join an observership / training program and change your status from B-1/B-2 to J-1.

Hope this helps.

Hi Khapats

Thank you for your reply and your suggestions, I am going to extend my visa and I am preparing to apply for extension. Most of the people give the reason for the extended period of stay saying they have to appear for step 3 exam and few of my seniors also suggested me the same. But the thing is in order to apply for Step 3 I will need to have all the scores which I don't at the moment. and am waiting for the scores to come.

Can you suggest me what should I do in this case?

Thanks.
