H1 Visa Do they still sponsor H1 Visa!

I'm a last year student in Europe, interested in peds or combined med/peds residencies in the US. I've been reading that very few hospitals now sponsor for H1b visas and there is no chance that my country will issue the required paperwork for a J1 visa.

I have only scored a 210 on my step 1. I have 4 weeks of 4th year elective at mayo clinic.

I'm confident that I can score much better on step 2 CK but I need to know if there is any chance that it would help get me matched to a residency that sponsors H1. Would applying for more electives in the states help at all? I'm willing to face fact and move on if there's no chance but I need solid information.

I don't think that increasing the number of US electives would increase your chances of getting an H1b Visa.

What you need to look up is to see how many programs in the specialty of your choice are willing to sponsor H1b visa. I tried to look that up online such as using FREIDA but I could not get a clear stats regarding that. You might try Match A Resident filter to see if that helps but am not sure how accurate that would be.

On this list there are only 21. I can imagine competition is stiff would be an understatement.
