Smile Got the visa

Hi everyone! I got my B1/B2 visa From the US embassy at new delhi. Here is my experience:

I scheduled an appointment on the stanley website on 30th october. My OFC appointment (fingerprinting and digital photograph) was at the Stanley office at international trade tower, nehru place on 1st november. It was scheduled at 11 am. I reached delhi at 8 am in the morning, so I just changed and rushed to the place. I reached at 10 and they let me in. I guess it is first come, first served . It was over in 10 mins. Carry your passport, appointment letter and DS160 confirmation page to the OFC; no other documents required.

The embassy interview was on the 4th of november. I dressed professionally with a tie. It was scheduled at 10 am. I reached at 9. They let me in. It is mentioned on the appointment letter that report only 15 mins before the scheduled time, but there is no such thing. Just don't be late.

You can carry a cellphone. They will deposit it outside. The actual interview lasted only 5 mins. I was carrying all the documents. She just checked my passport and asked the usual questions like
Why are you going?
What do you do?
How long will you be staying?
Will you be paid for you electives?
How did you come to know about this university?
What do you want to specialise in?
Who is paying for your trip?
What do your parents do?

She was very friendly. I had all the documents to support every answer but she didn't ask for anything. At the end she said, you'll get your passport back in a few days.

I was really happy

My passport was back at the stanley office the next day. I got 10 year multiple entry B1/B2 visa.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I dont know much about observerships. I just passed final year. I will graduate after completing 1 year internship. About your visa question, you can just ask the coordinator of the hospital/university if they need visa for the application.
Anyway you will have to get the visa if you wanna go for observership sooner or later. You just need to visit the US embassy website new delhi. Fill your ds 160 form online. There is a website immihelp.com ..... Its amazing. Check it out. You'll find every pertinent information about visa application.

And yes observerships are kinda difficult to find. But keep looking.

Hello my interview is in a week. Taking visa for CS.

Do you think they give the 10 year multi entry on a regular basis? Or I can expect to be given a single entry visa (that would be quite a hassle as I would have to apply again and again for every visit.)

Also, did you collect your passport the very next day? That cool, I thought it takes a week or so..

Thanks.

Nah I'm still a student so I guess convincing them that I would return won't really be much of a problem.

As per the future plans thing I'm confused myself. I mean what if they ask "So do you plan to practice medicine in the US?" The honest (and obvious) answer would be "yes". Some people suggest say "no, I'll come back after my residency".

Maybe neelmed can help us out here..

I don't know how frequently they issue 10 year visa. I guess it depends upon the visa officer. Like if you r just going for a pleasure trip or sightseeing, he'll give u single entry visa. But when u talk abt USMLE n stuff, they instantly know that you have to visit again, so they take that into consideration i guess.

This is a trick question. They'll definitely ask you about your future plans. My VO asked me what did i want to specialise in? I said neurology .. she smiled.... The point is that they know everything. They know about usmle and they know that if someone is going for step 2 CS, he is obviously planning to do a residency in US. So say yes to that question. But about the question of practicing medicine in US, i guess you should just say that i want to serve my country, so i'll come back after my residency. That should work fine.

And one more thing I wanna tell you guys.. if you have close relatives in US, DON'T mention them. Avoid talking about them. There is a column in ds160 form which talks abt relatives in US. Pick no. After that, the VO will probably not ask you about your relatives. But if you pick yes, then just say something like... yah i got distant relatives.. don't know them well enough.. won't be staying with them....

Yes i got the passport next day. The service is pretty fast. They say it takes a week max... but usually its much quicker.... I picked it up next day. Also take some additional govt id proof with you when you go for pick up.. like voter id or pan card.... and your appointment letter.
