Hi my friends, I'm a final year medical student from Egypt, I'm wondering if I can do an elective course in US? I don't have US visa nor green card
I sent many emails to many US hospitals, all of them said that they only offer those positions to US or Canadian students .
I will be very happy if any one tell me about US hospitals that offers elective courses for international student
& also if i will undergo a paid externship, will they sponsor my visa or not ?

Thanks all , bye

They don't sponsor you

There are few universities that can accept International Medical Students for electives, see this thread
http://www.usmle-forums.com/externs...electives-international-medical-students.html

Most Paid Externships companies do not sponsor you a visa (though you have to contact them to make sure).

Most International Medical Students apply for the elective or course or whatever and pay the relevant fees if applicable then they go to the US embassy with documentations of the course and ask for B1/B2 Visa.

I want to remind you also that once you graduate from your college you cannot apply for electives, you can apply for externship or observership only.

StepTaker explained it very well. Many of the university-based hospitals have articulation agreements and loyalty to their local medical schools, so they usually do not accomodate students outside of their network.
I would like to suggest that you contact our sister company, Americlerkships Medical Society, since they are able to provide student electives to International Medical Students.

Lastly, I am afraid that it wil be pretty difficult for you to find a Paid Externship Company that will be able to sponsor the appropriate visa for you, but you should consult an immigration lawyer to get more visa-specific information - Reviewed by: ED

An option that most of our non US IMG's will utilize if they have not yet taken their USMLE's is Kaplan Medical. They sponsor F1 students who are enrolled in their program.

We work with them and their students so you are able to do rotations part time while maintaining your studies at the center.
