Default J1 entry and ticket back to home country

Dear Friends,

I want to know what are the reasons acceptable to enter US within 30 days before the start of the program.

My second question is can I buy only a one way ticket to US, or like in visitor visa I need to buy a two ticket back and forth from my home country to US. Because I seriously do not know when I will be coming back.

Kind Regards

Default Answer

I checked with immigration and the clarification was for all non-immigrant training / student visas 30 day extensiblity is possible before it expires, so even without orientation one could enter 30 days before start of residency and will not be penalised by Immigration Services.
