Default help

I had all the documents.. He didn't even look at them. Just asked me who's the sponsor and didn't even look at the ECFMG letter.. He told me since I am fresh graduate I can go for CS later and should appear for CK 1st.. He didn't put any stamp though in my passport..
What should I do now??

Well in that case, you have no option but to listen to him.
Do the CK and then apply again.

The ECFMG can return you the money if you prove to them that your visa has been rejected.

Also, there's something that is called "appealing the action" you can ask about it in the embassy, but in my knowledge it has never succeeded.

Hey shikha sorry to hear that, yes they don't put any stamp to the visa rejected passports. Did they hand you any rules guideline after the interview.
Which embassy did you apply in?
Can you give me the details of how your interview had worked out?

if he says you need a CK score, just do it. they have noted that in their system already that all you need is a passing score on 1 exam before the issuance of a visa. Trust me, this happened to two friends I know.

Because they need at least 1 pass score, they are aware of the 1 year eligibility of cs, so they expect (especially 1st time visa applicants) a pass score on either step 1 ( usually the case) or ck. So that most of the people i know have both step 1 and ck results ready before going to the embassy o increase their chances of not having to be denied.

from experiences i have heard, with you having a step 1 score (not to mention a stellar score), and ck score on the way, your chances of a cs visa are high. go and apply, but if you can still wait for the ck, better, im sure the only reason for denial now is if they see that you or your sponsor doesn't have enough funds to support your trip. my suggestions:

bring your academic docs- transcript, medical diploma, certificate of internship (if you have one),

if you've worked or are still working- ITR's, certificate of employment, or whatever document that will prove your employment

if you are being sponsored by your parent/s- prepare a letter of support, type written short bond, preferrably on a letter head if possible (a friend of mine almost got denied because of this, luckily he prepared one) and of course other supporting docs to show that you or your sponsor are capable of financing your trip like checking accounts, credit card bills for 1 year (so they can see the flow of money in and out, also that whoever is paying for your trip is able to pay on time a credit card bill), a passbook, assets- cars and their insurances, lots, houses. of course whatever is applicable only.

lastly, usmle stuff- your step 1 score, certificate of notice from prometric that you have taken your step 2, cs visa letter, the confirmation of your Cs.

i really think you are good to go. apply now for your visa

yeah, it sounds like it shouldnt be a problem for u to get one especially with the score. When i had applied, hadnt taken any steps, was going for electives and managed to get visa for 10 yrs, was pleasantly surprised. interview hardly took any time. for my friend, shes giving step 1 next week, got delayed from march end to now due to some unavoidable family circumstances, was planning on having score when going for the interview. now her cs date will prob go waste unless she applies over the next few days and manages to work something out...but it was strange the guy apparently asked her the same question incessantly 2/3 times, she thought maybe she wasn't pronouncing well enough but her english is really good and she speaks slowly. think it was more of him questioning her to figure out whether what she says was true or not...dunno. he also seemed pretty peeeved with the last 2 people, rejected them as well...and they hung on for a bit to convince him otherwise. all in all, she thought it was strange and slightly offensive, midway the guy sort of questioned her ability, implying that maybe she wasnt good enough to go abroad, etc etc...but i guess sometimes u just gotta take these experiences with a pinch of salt and move on...thanks for the replies guys!

I brought all originals, but on the usembassy site they allow photocopies except for the passport, even old passports must be brought, no photocopies of that. So for the rest of your docs , photocopies r okay, but try your best to get originals because it is preferrable, but again not necessary 

Default Visa rejected

Hi everyone.
I had my Visa interview today for CS.
and I was rejected a Visa

I don't understand what went wrong.
I had all d needed documents wid me.
My step 1 score report(I scored 99),CK Scheduling permit,CK confirmation,CS visa letter and CS confirmation.

She just looked at my Visa letter and said ,"I understand that u r registered for ur exam in U.S but I have made up my mind".She wouldn't even see my other documents.wen I asked her why,she said,"plz don't argue wid me"

I have my CS scheduled for 18th July and by all means I need to take my exam.

I was considering reapplying but their website says,"You may reapply any time,bt in most cases it is better to wait until your personal circumstances have changed significantly before reapllying.Quick reapplivations based on the hope of finding a consul more inclined to issue a visa will likely result in a second refusal"

I even have my obsie in June.

I don't know what to do?

Someone please help.
Can someone tell me wen Should I reapply?
and what might have went wrong ?

Thanks and regards,
Babita Kataria

Oh this is such a difficult pill to swallow. Where did you apply? do you have friends who applied at the same place as you, or at least approximates your situation? what boxes were checked in this rejection paper they sent to you when you applied?

On the good side, you have one more "significant change to do" so that you can reapply again. Take Your CK first, produce a score. Your Obsie may be delayed but you see, either way, if you don't have a visa, you really can't do the obsie. So.. I think, there would be some re- planning of dates and i guess money shedding (if you were to consider changing you CS dates.

That's all the "significant change" that I can do If I were in your situation.

Thanks for replying.
Well,I had applied to New Delhi Embassy and I talked to 2 of my seniors, discussed my interview wid them( d questions that were asked and d answers i gave her),even they couldn't understand why she refused?
Well,at least I don't know of any friend(of those preparing for USMLE) who were denied Visa for CS,neither my seniors know of anyone

Well, yes! even I am considering taking CK first ( on 24th May )before reapplying, but I can't afford to wait for Scores ( Vaise bhi she didn't even look at my confirmation for CS,forget Step 1 score report ) and neither can I afford to postpone CS,dat will delay my ECFMG certification significantly, even possibly to an extent making me ineligible for 2012 match,so those r not the options available to me.
However,Postponing Obsie is something that I will consider and I;ll try to convince the coordinator for the same.Money shedding is again not an option(My dad isn't a rich man,I did job for 14 months to save money to fund my higher education,my dad is supportive though and tries his best in all ways possible to help me,even his heart broke yesterday seeing me so depressed )

So,Should I reapply in May end/June beginning?
Kindly guide me.

Thanks and Regards,
Babita

Ok so you are going 2012. As i see it, it wouldbe best to have a score, i think that would be worth the risk of reapplying, that is when you could at least tell yourself " ive done everything i could". A passing score on your ck will leave them no choice but to give you a visa, because that's all there is to it for your situation. So if i was in your shoes, i will apply in june when i have ck results.thats just me

Cool

I think the main reason why visas get rejected is that people show only their Ecfmg letter at the time of the interview, I have got a ten year visa myself and that too from the Delhi consulate which is the one that scrutinises the applicants the most. Quite obviously it is their belief that people from the northern part of india resort to malpractices the most and hence the tight scrutiny.People going to Chennai or mumbai consulates they believe are more honest, it seems. Nevertheless i believe it is important to carry also a sponsors letter(like a relative in the usa) when you go for an interview. It may be even better if you have a letter from a hospital inviting you there for a visit or something. And please brush up your english. the guy in front of me got rejected cos the american visa woman could not understand a thing what he said over there. she finally got so miffed with him she had to literally tell him to leave the counter. If you are going to the us for a practical exam which involves speaking to patients you should know basic english enough to put your thoughts across to the interviewer.:sorry:So if you turn up at the interview as a bandar or whatever ur sure to get rejected

Guys my visa was refused!!! I am done with both step 1 and CK and doing my internship now. He didn't look at any document except the visa support letter and the letter from our hospital stating my current position there. He refused to look at my sponsor's (father) bank statement and property documents and said he can't approve my application because I do not have strong ties to my country!!! My parents are here, I have a job and had a good bank statement and assets but he refused to look at those. I don't know what change can I bring in my application this time, really confused and worried, please help me here.

I was refused a visa for electives as well during medschool, no reason specified, so I am scared I might be one of those unfortunate few who never get the visa!

Hello
I know how you must feel. I'm sailing in the same boat. My visa for CS was rejected a few days back. Can you elaborate on how your interview went, if you don't mind.
Thanks! and all the best!

Yeah of course. Well I was the first one to be interviewed that day. It started fine, after the greetings, his questions were.
why do you want to go to the us:
me: to take usmle step 2 cs exam.

ok tell me something about usmle.
i told him that its a series of exams that we have to take before we can get residency training in the us and bla bla, and that cs and step 3 can only be taken in the us.

why specifically atlanta?
me: I have my cousin there, it would be very convenient for me.

what does he do?
he is a doctor.

ok tell me about your current job.
I work as a house officer in X ward of X hospital, been working there for 3 months now.

do you have any document that you think might affect my decision?
now that was a very open question so i started with the visa support letter, then step and ck score reports, cs permit, bank statement+income certificate+father's assets' documents he said he doesnt wanna see them, then i went for the letter from the hospital stating my current position, he read that and then said "its really hard to get a visa to america, i am not approving your application on the grounds of you not having ties strong enough to your country"!!!!

I said "well i can tell you more about my ties", to which he said "i am sorry i cannot change my decision now".

Default hi

well.. First time I applied on the basis of CS with step 1 score only. They did not even look at any other thing. They just told me to appear for CK first.. Then when I applied for second time all I was asked was my step 2 report.. It really depends on the VO. You can convince him that you have to give CS first.. Or better still if you can go for observership

If you are going to the us for a practical exam which involves speaking to patients you should know basic english enough to put your thoughts across to the interviewer.:sorry:So if you turn up at the interview as a bandar or whatever ur sure to get rejected
i had a letter from my sister who stays in states i had my step 1 and ck scores but he asked for the exam letter i shoed him my scheduling permit visa letter was i supposed to show him step 1 and ck marksheet as well? plz contact me and tell when shpould i reapply

Hii!! I applied for B1/B2 back in October 2014 for Electives and was denied by VO. I reapplied a week later and again rejected. I had been issued B1/B2 before in 2013 for 3 months to do Electives and CS exam. I came back within the stipulated time. I could not give CS exams because my Application was rejected by ECFMG as it was not sent directly from Med school. The VO who rejected me first time told that if you were going for USMLE exam it could have been considered. Then the second Vo said Electives cannot be done on B1. I am a graduate now. I work as Medical officer in a nursing home and wish to appear for CS in June and Ck on April. I have already passed Step 1. I am actually in a spot of bother as I do not know if I will be given a visa considering the fact that my Visa has been denied twice already in October. Can you please help on how to increase my chances of getting a visa and avoid Visa rejection for giving CS this time round.
Thanking you.
