Passport Administrative processing for B1/2 visa?

Does anybody have an idea about the so-called "administrative processing"? how long does it really take and can it really delay the issuing of the visa?

I'm afraid those mentioned 60 days can really mess up my schedule, and unfortunately I haven't applied earlier, because I only looked at the visa wait times (that are just a few days in my country).

I'm based in Cairo, Egypt - but I can visit Abu Dhabi or Dubai (UAE) if visa issuing is faster there.

I'd appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Unhappy Hi there,,

Am sure you must have already applied for an interview and probably got interview .. I hope everything went well with you .. But if they give you a case number and ask you to follow the case online (the administrative processing procedure) then it could take up to 6 weeks in Cairo! My case is i've been waiting for almost a month and no reply has come yet ! Wishing you all the best and i know how frustrating that thing is .. Am already going insane !

Hi,

Fortunately, I received the visa in 2 days via DHL. My papers were so complete that the interviewer had no choice but to give me the visa!

Don't worry about your visa. You'll get it soon. My friend waited for a little more than a month.

Default well done

Good that you were approved immediately .. My documents were all complete and they could see that obviously i am not an intended immigrant or anything .. but maybe cause am a pilot that they need to go through some security checks ! The guy over there was quiet nice actually but it's all useless cause they leave you so confused and my plans now are ruined ! all my friends they've gone already and coming back to Cairo in 2 days ..
Well it is a good thing to have it anyway just in case .. How many years is yours valid for ?

You're a pilot? So you're not going there for the USMLE exams and interviews?

The visa I have is multiple-entry and is valid for 5 years.

It depends on the reciprocity between the US and other countries. For instance, Indians get a 10-year visa because of higher reciprocity.
