What type of research needed?
As I've seen that many experts advise doing medical research in order to get a better chance at the residency matching
My question is What type of research is good Is participating as a researcher or volunteer in an ongoing clinical research project OK?

Research that matters
Participating in any kind of research is useful point in the CV
but the most highly ranked and matters most is this: Having a publication in which your name is mentioned in a peer reviewed journal and preferably Medline indexed journal.
