Default Call from Program Director!

Telephone ringing...
Candidate: Hello
PD: Are you first name last name
Candidate: Yes
PD: I am the program director of the University program
Candidate: Hello sir, nice to hear from you
PD: We found your profile interesting and we'd like to offer you a pre-match
Candidate: Thank you sir, am so excited about it but am afraid it would be inappropriate for me if I withdraw from the match but I will definitely rank your wonderful program high in my rank order.
PD: OK, thanks, bye

What do you think about this, would the PD rank that candidate in the match? Or he's so upset that he'll never rank him

Not good....If you get a pre-match offer, you take it. Unless you don't want it. But if you didn't want it, then of course they will assume you aren't going to put it high on your list and neither will they. Therefore, if you did want it, you should have taken the pre-match offer. Say goodbye to that place.

They say you should try to schedule your 'first choice' interview first in case of pre-match offer.

The problem is not that I don't like it. The problem is that am afraid I'll lose another better choice if I withdraw.

Oh my God, really I should say goodbye to that place!

By chance you may, but I know a friend that turned one down then tried getting it back...it doesn't happen. There are a lot of people trying to get spots. You may get a better choice or you may get a worse choice. But I'm 80% sure you are not going to get that choice you just turned down. sorry
