Help Can students have an externship!

Hello .... I have a question , last year i had 2 months of USCE while i was a student , 1 month in a university affiliated hospital and the other one in a community hospital but both hospital gave me a document that i did an externship with hands on experience !! although i was a student at that time
I searched the internet and found that externships are only for physicians ... will that be a problem ? can students have externships ?

Arrow Electives not Externships

When you do hands-on experience while you are still a student, it's called elective rotation, it's not called externships.

If the LoR is mentioning "externship" then I guess it's fine. It would be understandable that what you did is actually an elective.

You should also mention in your CV and in ERAS that those USCEs were electives.

hi..I also have the same issue...
I did an elective while I was a student and my 2nd rotation was through americlerkships in a semiteaching hospitals which gave me a hands on experience just like my elective....also my colleagues in 2nd rotation were all graduates unlike me as I was a student....so this 2nd rotation would also count in an elective...right?
also do we need to give any documentation about our electives as I only got an LoR from my 2nd rotation , Which I've waived my right, so the attending will send it directly to ERAS...
thanx in advance

-Yes that would count as an elective
-No, you don't need further documentation.

Even if it is not a requirement that you have more documentation, there is also a clinical evaluation and grade given to all AmeriClerkships members as they go through their training. Please ask your representative about this, they can help get it over to you

Molly

i have got a clinical evaluation , but it is not on a hospital letter head as i got one from my other electives....so i was just worried whether it is considered as an elective or a clerkship or an externship as i was a student at the tim i did ....
