Default A question

Congrats! I am MD (IMG), PhD from UBC (Canada) and now a postdoctoral fellow working in the field of human genetics in UBC. I appreciate if you comment whether one should have your ECFMG certificate to get electives in US hospitals in general or specifically in Yale affiliated hospitals.

Thanks,
MR

Is there anyone here who's already done an elective in Yale? Just wondering if you could share your experience there.
I'll be doing an elective in gastroenterology in March.

Hi there,

As far as I know, electives can only be done by students who are in their final year of medical school. As you have already graduated, you would not be eligible for electives, however you may apply for observerships / externships.

I would recommend going through usmletomd.com for places to apply for externships / observerships.

Hope this helps!

drzamzam: submit a complete application with all documentation (see their website for more details), apply 6-7 months in advance (i sent my application in july for the march elective), write a good personal statement- writing about not only how you would benefit from the program but also how you can contribute, after a few months on submission of the application, send an email to the coordinator around a month after you submit your application as a subtle reminder mentioning that you have submitted the application and would like to know if they've received it, etc etc- (i got the acceptance letter 1 week after i mailed the coordinator), pray and hope for the best! that's how i bagged my elective. hope it helps! good luck to you!

Hi Smanthrav

I am applying for Yale elective this year for IM Gastro and Cardiology. I completed TOEFL & Step 1. I would like to know the chances of getting these electives if I apply now for Nov-Jan. Also, can you please share your experience?

Thank you for taking your time to help.
