Idea! Volunteering as a form of USCE!

When I was in Kaplan, some people told me that volunteering work in the hospitals could be a nice option for the IMGs, you could receive a LOR and you don't have to pay.

The told me that, specially because they said that the residency programs don't see very well that you pay for an observership and that externship are hard to get.

Has anyone has heard about volunteer practice being something that worth to try as US clinical experience?

Definitely true. Program directors would love you when you do volunteering in health care.

The problem is, it's not easy!

Hospitals have special restrictions and regulations that makes very difficult to volunteer with them and at best you won't be volunteering in a post that allow you to interact with patients or even observe clinical work.

I have a friend who volunteered in the Emergency Room to push trollies! he said it was something to put in the CV instead of staying home. But I think it would have much better for him to do observership or externship.
