Default LORs and Externships

Hello Emma,

To answer your question, this is generally not the case. In the case of Chicago Clerkships, your LOR comes directly from a board certified physician who serves as your preceptor. Each LOR reflects the opinion and assessment of your preceptor.

Paid services are essentially placement services. We connect you with a preceptor who trains you. Our preceptors are not our employees, but rather partners who are affiliated to hospitals and health systems. In some cases they are also clinical faculty. In our case, we do not interfere or participate in the process of the LOR. We guarantee one letter, but we do not guarantee the content. Our company is not mentioned anywhere in the letter, as we are involved only in placement and supportive services while you are here in Chicago. The letters tend to be strong, detailed, and supportive, but the comments do depend heavily on your professionalism and performance.

Unless YOU mention it in your application or in the interview, it is irrelevant how you got the experience. The important thing is that you get US clinical experience with a board certified preceptor in the specialty (or closely related specialty) to which you are applying to match.

We would be more than happy to to advise you further. Please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,
Lori Ramos
