Help Electives in USA versus India

Hello forum,

My query is specific. I'm an Indian and I'll be commencing my internship shortly. As I have learned, doing an elective during this period would be a very good idea. (Yes I know what that it, I've set my definitions straight!). My branch of interest is Internal Medicine.

My query is -
If I get the opportunity of doing an elective in Internal Medicine somewhere in US; would that mean I will NOT have to participate in the Internal Medicine rotation during my internship here in India? If yes, what would my internship certificate in the end look like?
OR
Do I have to complete my internship as usual, including the internal medicine rotation?

What requirements are to fulfilled on my college's behalf? Mine is a rather orthodox college so I'd really like to know how exactly it has to be involved in the process and be prepared.

Also, what is the usual amount of time these electives are for?

Any comments shall be highly appreciated!

Default requirements

hello DNA,
well USCE in internal medicine does not count for indian internship. so suppose u visit US during ur internship period, u will have to come bak and again finish 60 days of medicine (45 days medicine & 15 days of psychiatry) internship in india.
Regarding the document requirements:
at least 2 LOR'S from ur college faculty atleast one of which should be from the dean of your medical college,
ur clinical transcripts on ur college letterhead( hour transcipt, clinical postings details)
Bonafide student certificate made under ur college letter head & dean's signature
all MBBS phases marksheets, passing certificate, attempt certificate
passport
immunisation certificate made at any hospital after recieving immunisation against hepatitis b (all 3 doses), MMR, Tetanus, Mantoux test(ppd), Chest X ray report.
a personal statement.
u will have to get a scan of all the above documents and send it via email

you need all vaccinations to apply. they are very strict about this in usa. you can get blood labs to show antibodies. if you can't get them at least have doctors note saying so.

it will depend on your school. every school is different. even kmc students some got approval for 1 full year electives in us in place of internship in india. but most went for few months for externships
