Question Non-clinical academic experience VS USCE??

Hello guys,
So we all know how much USCE is important to get interviews at good programs. For IMGs who have already graduated there are very few USCE opportunities other than observerships or research.
How does non-clinical academic experience like being an editor at a medical journal, USMLE books or USMLE Qbanks fare in improving your CV? Is it better than observerships/research?

Non clinical academic work could also be running websites and forums regarding medical content. Staff members whats your take on this. Did it help in you in getting good IV calls?

There's nothing better than clinical experience to convince a program director that you can actually deal with his patients without causing problems.

The idea is that they are not looking for the most intelligent clinician in the world who can spot the diagnosis in few seconds, they are just looking for somebody who is safe and has the appropriate personality and communication skills.

Therefore, non-clinical experience such as those you mentioned above are not an indicator of your communication skills or clinical ability and therefore they won't count as much.

Of course, it's better than sitting at home and it's even better than your home country clinical experience (if it was in the US).

Let me tell you an example;

I know a friend who has been working IT and developing medical mobile applications in California Silicon Valley and he had non USCE but lots of clinical experience at his home country. He was accepted into a descent residency program and the PD told him that his "mobile" experience was a big part he was accepted not his home country clinical experience!
