Default My Elective Experience

Hi all,
I am amr from Egypt, i had USCE at the end of my internship(house officer year after 6th year college) on Jan. an Feb. 2013. I went to University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) school of medicine, Alabama. It was a great university hospital used to accept IMGs with reasonable fees and few application forms including CV, health forms and vaccinations and mainly a letter from a sponsor of a faculty member who can sponsor your rotations without requesting any usmle steps.
I had 1 month in adolescent medicine clinic and 1 month in pediatrics neurology in wards and clinic, besides conferences at noon and grand conferences on Thusrday. It was hands on as much as we can. They allowed us to log in computers and patients data. I got few letters of reccomendations.
I went with my egyptian freinds and had accomodation at an american lady house and she was generous to us.
If any 1 needs any help ask me.
Good luck.

Default hi

I think there was no need for transcripts, actually i do not remember it has been about 3 years. you can check uab som web site application on the upper right corner, search google, and see required papers. but it is good to have good degrees in speciality you are going to do elective in

Hey amrshimi, Congrats on your wonderful USCE and LORs!
I wanted to ask you how did you get a faculty sponsor? I mean did you email random faculty or did you have contacts?
Also how early did you apply?

Thanks happy boo.
actually i tried to search myself and it is a good way sometimes by sending to many drs a decent formal email. but a freind suggested for me 2 egyptian drs and 1 of them accepted to sponsor me. unfortunately i hear now it is more complicated with less number of sponsors and students and you have to choose sponosor whom you will have a rotation in his speciality(in my case it was still open, my sponsor was adult hematologist "internal medicine" but i went to pediatrics)

and you have to apply early because the application process itself preparing the papers take time, besides they take time to send acceptance, you have to apply for visa on time which also takes times.....and dont forget the flight booking. i will say about 6 months prior to your required rotation.

Hope this answrs you, good luck.

Hey! I am going to apply to UAB for an elective, but I haven''t seen anything on their site that says we need a sponsor there :/
Also what are the chances of being accepted there for an IMG with only TOEFL scores?
