Default Clinical Elective in Cleveland Clinic

Hey guys I have been selected for a clinical elective in Cleveland Clinic Ohio in November-December in Internal Medicine Subinternship! Does anybody have any experience to share? Will anyone be there the same time? Thank you!

No I did not! I just sent a memo explaining that I will purchase one asap (look at the FAQs on their website where it states that for some missing documents you can send something like that). I also did not have a Visa but these 2 are still pending of course. Nonetheless I was accepted so you can do the same!

Default TOEFL score

Congratulation on your admission!!

I have applied to the same course in February!
But I am afraid because my TOEFL test score may not meet their eligibility criteria. I got a 24 on the speaking section (a "good" score out of three in the explanatory table in the second page).
Could you please share your TOEFL score with us? Did you score high and good in ALL the TOEFL sections?

Thank you

I think 24 on the speaking section is enough though....aren't they mentioning their required minimum TOEFL scores on the website?
I got 26 on the speaking section and 111 overall.
I think you are completely fine with 24 on speaking.

Default thank you

Thank you for your support.
Unfortunately on their website they do not mention the exact scores required, but they just say they require high and good grades in each section.
One more thing: I have noticed that you received a positive response incredibly early! On the website they say that a final decision will be made 45 days prior to the start of the rotation! When did you receive a response?

Thank you

I applied for like 10+ electives. It gives you 2 major choices and below it says to add more if both these choices are unavailable (I added everything I was interested to, there was no limit). I don't know what you want me to share, ask me specifically :P

it's just a regular immunization form from a doctor I went for a check-up, it's not a ''formal'' form or something. If the elective doesn't give you a specific form to fill, then you just upload whatever you have. I even know a person who just took pictures with his phone of his health booklet, uploaded them and sent them and he had no problem lol (that was not in Cleveland but I guess that would still work). Just ask your doctor to fill whatever kind of form he provides to his patients (not just a blank page) and you will be fine.

You fill an electronic application, you should visit their website, it's very easy really as long as you have all the required material (the only ''weird'' thing they ask for is a urine toxicology test and a criminal background check). The application fee is 150$ and then (I think I am not sure yet lol) there is no tuition fee, but really don't count on this I am not sure.

They do mention you need "good" (26) speaking skills to be accepted. 24 would be "fair" according to the scale. I would encourage you to inquire before wasting money.

Anyways, I applied today for October => December, hoping they haven't filled all the spots yet, since I am pretty late (it still allowed me to apply for October though, which was a relief)! I'll let you guys know if I get into anything. At this point Cleveland Clinic is my N 1 choice to go regardless of elective specialty (because it's free! + a good place).

I have also applied for the internal medicine Sub internship for November-December, so maybe I'll meet you there!

By the way, how long did it take for you to get an answer? What's your USMLE score?

If it was still allowed for you to apply for October you will most likely have no problem. My Step 1 score is 245. I had applied for 2 consecutive months and for the first one they answered to me pretty quickly while for the other one I still don't have an answer. I guess they don't have a specific time when they answer, it depends with every student/elective so you should not worry about that either. I actually transferred later my SubI elective due to some personal reasons but I hope you get accepted (maybe you will take my spot :P).

TeemoR thanks for all the info. Your Step 1 score is pretty good! I also applied to Cleveland for an elective in the November-December period, indicated about 12 elective choices in my application.

So far my application tally:
Mayo - rejected
Yale - accepted, however might clash with my graduation exam i have like a few days to decide
Cleveland - pending
UTH - pending

I'm still hoping for a positive outcome from Cleveland asap though, since it's Cleveland Clinic and it's free with accommodation. My hopes are gradually diminishing though (my step 1 - 222, TOEFL - 118)

Sadly I think you'll only get your response in about a month. The waiting game sucks. I am still waiting for an answer for October-November. I only applied 2 weeks ago though.

Also, I applied for 8 specialties and was feeling bad for applying for so many. Glad to hear more people did the same .

the wait is killing me too . . In the case that I get rejected for October and accepted for November, I wonder if they will at least send a rejection letter for October soon, would make my life easier to plan.

I just got rejected due to my a "fair" marking in a speaking subsection of my TOEFL exam. My speaking skills score was 28.

This is unbelievable, I am shocked starring at the email right now. What a waste of 300 dollars. I will ask them to reconsider but I don't realistically expected them to change anything at this point.

They should probably state that outright in their requirements to make things clearer. A "fair" marking in a subsection = instant rejection.

Good luck guys, RIP dream.

Thankfully they told me they would review the rest of my application. Hopefully there is a spot left in October still, but highly doubt it at this point. Well, getting a spot in November would be really nice anyways.

No sorry, can't give away contact info. Just be patient, they should give you an answer soon. They are busy people with a schedule regarding electives; you emailing them has very little potential to help you and much more potential to annoy them. If you are rejected I believe they will tell you the reason, which is nice.

That said, I would email them next week if you don't get an answer this week (with the contact info provided on the website).

Hi! I am in your same condition... I am waiting for a response from Cleveland for the November - December electives.

I am quite nervous... on their website they seem pretty precise about the response timing.
I was confident to receive an e-mail yesterday, the very last day that could be considered within their "45 days response timing".

Has anyone received the official response?

I'm also waiting for the outcome of my app for the Nov-Dec elective period. Since it starts on November 21, we could expect a reply any time between September 21 to October 2. Patience my dears!

Also, congrats parcus for the great news!

Assuming you're in a 5 year program, the 6th semester would correspond to the second half of 3rd year which means you're eyeing the Step 1 exam for sometime in the first half of your 4th year. Coming from a 5-year program myself, I personally believe that's an excellent time to get the Step 1 out of the way. With regard to electives, it puts you in a good position to start applying early for your final year electives.

Cleveland opened up their application processing on April 15th this year. If their 2017-2018 academic year electives open around the same time (i.e., April 2017), you should aim to give your step 1 before that so that you can apply asap to Cleveland's program. Similarly, since Mayo also has a step 1 requirement, you'll be in a good position to apply early. However, last I checked, Mayo's application deadline's are usually ~4 months in advance of your desired elective date. In this case, you may have more than enough time to get everything ready for Mayo.

Hope that helped.

Thanks levin for the help.
but can u plz tell me what toefl score i has acquire for that.
as i an indian img.
has to acquire toefl score*?

Going with Lancet. You mentioned October? 15 days before the elective starts?

Edited: It was a little bit more expansive than that, and the process was not very consumer friendly in my opinion. But I don't intend on getting sued, so I just went with the cheapest.

Originally, I did not get any elective in October because my three choices (Subinternship, Gastro and Endo) were filled up. Luckily some guy dropped out at the last min for medicine sub-internship. so lucky me!!

@parcus
it is not letting me send a private message reply to you because I have less than 15 posts, so I am messaging you here.

Originally I did not get any email. I emailed them asking that I haven't gotten any reply yet. This is like 3 days after you got accepted.

They said that problem was that the three electives I chose (med, endo, gastro) were filled so they are going to keep my application open for November.

2 days ago, I got an email from them saying that someone dropped out of internal medicine and they asked if I was willing to do it, they will provide housing for october etc.

I said yes. So the only reason I got the late reply is because someone dropped out at the last minute.

No I did not! I just sent a memo explaining that I will purchase one asap (look at the FAQs on their website where it states that for some missing documents you can send something like that). I also did not have a Visa but these 2 are still pending of course. Nonetheless I was accepted so you can do the same!

Will u plz help me in findind some research activites.
They say research publications are worth doing.
So can u plz help about how to ask or get research practice at my home college. THANKS.

Well folks, I got confirmation, not at all the elective I was hoping to get (like 10th choice), but still quite excited. I feel caught with my pants down though, I know almost nothing about the elective I am going to do.
