Default Weill Cornell June 2017

Hello guys, im a 5th year medical student studying in jordan, im going to apply for june neurology electives @ weill cornell. My expected year of graduatiom is 2017-2018 ( medicine is 6yrs here, i finish fifth year and all core clerkships in may 2017 ) however june electives are considered part of year 2016-2017 at cornell and when i apply i need to prove that im in my last year. Is it okaay to apply for 2016-2017 electives when my expected year of graduation is 2017-2018 ? Knowing that i finish my 5th year in may before the elective in june !
I hope you understand what im trying to say , thank you !

Hello,
I think what you mean is that you will be done with the studying part of MBBS. And the last year is internship right? which you will be finishing by 2017-18.
If what I have thought is right then you can apply to Cornell at ease.

Glad to help, I also wanted a neuro elective but somehow we don't really have an option Each and every program either requires a previous neuro elective experience in the US Or simply do not allow IMG's. It's like they don't want IMG's in Neuro

Yes Mt. sinai is a very good option! Just apply before 8 months, and you can apply without step 1 there, of course FIU but it should be your last option
No idea about Harward
In UAB you can get only with toefl score but apply 8 months before so that you can get in your preferred department.

Well to be honest im afraid of paying a 1000$ w/o getting accepted, thats a lot of money wasted ! FIU they dont have neurology dont they ? They only offer pediatric neuro electives, and is it bad ?. University of alabama i couldnt find there catalog and i have no idea about my chances there.
Bare with me guys im sorry but im genuinely lost, if i do an elective in oncology will it count when i apply for neurology in the future ?

FIU has Neurology electives but not residency. Like it's still better than nothing right?

Alabama's catalogue was there when I checked last in May-June along with the openings and availability.

What about Harvard and Yale(I'm not sure about their step 1 requirement)?

Your best bet would be to give step 1 as soon as possible and then apply to other universities like Mayo, Case {they closed down their neuro electives this june, I'm not sure why } and others that require step 1.

And I don't think oncology would help neurology directly but it wil ofcourse help you tol fulfill the USCE requirement criteria.

To sum up, im interested in neurology as a first option, oncology as a second option for residency. My options for thr elective are as follow:
was offered a hands on elective at memorial hospital in huston Guaranteed but in oncology
To apply for FIU neurology
To apply for Weill cornell Pediatric neurolgy
To apply for alabama or kansas neurology
To apply for AMO/Medclerkships neurology elective
If you were me what would you choose ( i can choose 2 ) ?

I would go for AMO/Medclerkship neurology. Because neurology is hard to get into and these people will get you an elective, rather than just directing you. But do try your luck, apply for all the universities without any application fees.

first of all thank you for the reply !
i gotta ask you though, which one would you choose AMO or medclerkships ? and should i look for a teaching or university affiliated hospital or what exactly when i apply though them ?
& Does it count if i do pediatric neurology in weill cornell ? ( although i wanna be an adult neurologist )

all universities require an application fees so i might apply for a couple ( Weill cornell and some other good university ) if it didnt work, then i will apply though one of those agents !
and ofcourse a month in Memorial hospital in houston ( since its guaranteed, i dont have to pay anything and i got free accommodation, plus im planning on doing the CS there in houston )

I didn't use any of the agencies. I applied individually. Non teaching hospitals would be better because they are subjected to less rules and regulations compared to the teaching one. You can get an LOR from doctor known to AMO/ any agency people. But in some teaching hospitals if you go through agencies your application will be rejected.
Mt. Sinai the application fee itself is 1500$ which even doesn't gurantee you an elective. But if you spend a bit more thr agencies. You can fetch one.
Anything is better than nothing. If you get a neurology elective that is more than enough, doesn't matter child/adult.
And may I know how you got a month elective at Memorial hospital in Houston. Even I am planning for cs there.

What makes those agencies less appealing to people ? i mean why dont we just apply though them ? a LOR from a doctor with AMO/Medclerkship is less valuable than the normal ones ?
I got a sponsor, is it a good place ?

What universities think is that, it is the right of the university to select their student of choice purely on merit. They do not like involvement of any agencies in it. You have got a sponsor at Metropolis hospital in Hoston. Am I right?

Hey guys,

Is there any special eligibility criteria regarding the attending medical college? In the application form they specifically mentioned students from "approved medical colleges" are eligible to apply. What does that mean?
