Default Thanks!

I am an IMG from Colombia and just finished 3 months of rotations through Chicagoclerkships.

Before coming here to do this I was a little nervous because I read a lot of different opinions online about externships and about all of the companies that offered this. One of the things I read in most of the places is that they did not always comply with the rotations promised initially and that you could risk getting a doctor with whom you would not do much. I want to post this because my experience with Chicagoclerkships was the opposite and I would have appreciated someone to write something like this when I was doing my research, which would have made my decision easier.

The people from Chicagoclerkships were really helpful all the time with me and clarified the thousands of questions I had (about externships, the residency process, CV, personal statement, applications, interviews...). They always made sure that the rotations they gave me were up to my expectations and gave me the option to let them know in case they weren´t so they could help me get something more similar of what I was looking for. Nevertheless I never had to complaint with them as I had a lot of hands-on experience in all of my rotations, the Doctors were really nice and as they have other students they can be academic sometimes.

Besides the rotations, they offer constant conferences on things related to the residency application process and advice on your CV and personal Statement, which in my case was LIFE SAVING as I was really lost on what I was going to do with them.

This was my experience with them, as I mentioned I have no complains but on the other hand I am really grateful for all the help!

Do you place for hands-on USCE after graduation? Is ECFMG certification a requirement?
Should we finish Step 1?

Hi there! Here are the answers to your questions:

Do you place for hands-on USCE after graduation? Yes, that is our specialization. Although we accept and assist current medical students, most of our clients are IMGs, already graduated.

Is ECFMG certification a requirement? No. Some of our clients are doing rotations for their own personal advancement, not for the residency match, so we do not require it.

Should we finish Step 1? Because you have already graduated, there are no requirements around Step 1 and cores. You will hear this a lot from medical students but it doesn't apply to you. Doing Step 1 before or after your rotations is a personal decision. Some people want to do a rotation before they start the process, just to see if working in the US is the right path for them. Some want to do the Step 1 first, in order to see how they do and then decide if they want to spend the time, money and energy on rotations in the US.

Here is an article I wrote which might help you make your plan:

I'll be happy to answer any additional questions. Please feel free to email us directly through our website.
