Help When to look for research work?

Do I need to participate in research from now? or after getting good score in Step 1.
As I am preparing for USMLE step1 since 15th of June 2012.
Please give me your suggestions.

Default Research during step 1 preparation, not a good idea!!!

I think it is good to have published articles esp in International Journals. You can work on some articles yourself. It doesn't need to be a full fledged research but a case report or view point could be good considering the time constraints. BUT I would suggest you to focus on step 1 preparation first since step 1 score are really important. You can manage time for research and publications later like after step 2 or during step 2 preparation itself. All the best.
