Question Brown Alpert not recognizing my school. Indian IMG.

Hey guys, I am from a reputed government medical college from Calcutta, India.
I have taken step 1 and the result is awaited. I mailed the Electives co-ordinator asking about electives and she replied that my school isnt recognized by them and they have stopped taking new international students altogather due the increase in their own class size for MD.

Has anything similar occurred to any another Indian IMG

Check if you're school is listed in the WHO directory: http://avicenna.ku.dk/database/medicine

Some boards use that as I guide, others use the california list of approved or disapproved Med Schools.

That's just a list of approved schools, so if you're school is on it, that's good.
Also check the California list of approved schools (http://www.mbc.ca.gov/applicant/schools_recognized.html) and there's one for not approved schools. Sometimes State Medical Boards want the applicants to be on that list (not only California, a couple of other states use it, too). I don't think it has anything to do with electives. I suppose every hospital / school has their own regulations about that.
Good luck!

I didn't mean to confuse anybody..., just thought that the list would be helpful. Somebody with more experience should answer that, or, even better, contact the hospital where you're interested in doing the elective and I'm sure they'll be able to help you.

HI,

Some schools have exchange programs and so they accept students from only few schools.. usually the school sites gives a list of such med schools mentioning them as global partners or some similar name.. the list varies with each university , if your school is not listed there that means you are not eligible to apply... I dont think it has anything to do with the WHO list, Well I may be wrong ..
