Question Externship without malpractice insuranse

Is externship allowed without malpractice coverage?

Ideally speaking you shouldn't be allowed to touch a patient unless you are covered by liability insurance.

However, (this is a big however), that is not strictly followed by all States and all hospitals. Some private hospitals for example would include you under the attending coverage so if you get messed up the attending will cover you.

I am not a legal expert but from what I have seen, there are externships done without insurance and I don't know how legal or appropriate is that.
