Observership or Work as a Medical Assistant?

My original plan for a USCE was to do an observership at a private clinic (100% sure) or a teaching hospital (50/50 chance). However, I had a job offer at a semi-government hospital in the U.S. for a medical assistant position in the internal medicine department. It has a really good pay, but a 1-year contract.

Now I am confused. Which would look better in my CV? An observership at a private clinic, and if I'm lucky at a teaching hospital? Or actual work experience as a medical assistant in a semi-government hospital?

Thank you!! :)

Actually I am in the same position as you, so I'd definitely say the paid medical assistant! Observership doesn't allow you to do anything, just watch; whereas, as an assistant, it will be more hands on.

Working as a medical assistant would help you obtain residency relevant hands-on USCE.

There are several research articles on the selection criteria for residency and observership and research are not recommended.

However, you want to make sure that you work with or help as many US Physicians to help you secure a minimum of 4 LORs from US physicians. Would benefit you to secure 2 part-time positions in two patient care facilities.

We offer the only state approved Advanced Medical Assisting-Medical Residency Track program for IMGs. In addition to 5 individual externship rotations, in 5 different patient care facilities, under the supervision of 5 different, and online courses. We also provide job placement assistance as CAMA and currently working with many teaching hospitals. ITs an all in one type of program.
