Help Research fellowship at Hopkins

Hi guys,

I am a medical graduate from India.I have recently been offered a reserch fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. However, they need me to be on a short term J1 (self funded) for that purpose. I am aware that the 12-24 months bar does not apply but I am scared that I might be subject to an HRR (Home Return Requirement) and that would jeopardise my application for residency next year. I am not sure as to what I should do because I don't wanna lose this opportunity but the risk/benefit ratio is too high.

Can anyone please suggest if I have a safer alternative or if there is anyway I can make sure the HRR does not apply?:sorry: Or should I just refuse and go only for my CS on a tourist visa?

Thank you. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Sirin

You won't be subject to HRR since you are self funded. You can confirm about your employment terms from the International affairs office in Hopkins to make sure of that.

Thanks a lot. I have already taken a word of advice from the International Affairs Office and they believe I should not face any such problems. But the doubt came up in my mind only because I saw a few conflicting reports in various blogs where short term scholars have been subject to an HRR. So just trying to make sure this is safe. Have you previously taken such an experience as a short term scholar? I know that the HRR varies from country to country.
