Hi, I recently completed a 4-week Internal Medicine clerkship in Brooklyn with MedClerkships.com in December

The physician I was shadowing was very professional and gave me a lot of one on one time to discuss any issues/questions I had. He even let me take a couple of days off to study for my CS exam. Overall, an excellent experience - I was provided an outstanding LOR and learned a lot.

If there is anything else you want to know, I'd be happy to let you know about my time there.

Was the clerkship in a private hospital? Or in a university hospital?

The program I was enrolled in had me rotating at 4 different locations as I shadowed the preceptor along his daily routine: 3 were university affiliated hospitals and 1 was a private clinic

hope this helps

I actually completed my rotation with them back in December... My rotation took me through 4 hospitals all university affiliated

Thinking about enrolling in Pediatrics with them in April - will keep you posted

Currently doing some side projects and research in NC, wish you the best of luck in NYC!

Can a student be guaranteed to renew rotations with this form, provided there were no issues? Can you provide all clinicals for electives in the same city?

I did back to back internal medicine clerkships with them a couple months ago

I was given the option of the same hospital or a different one in my second cycle but it was a little too far for me so I stayed in the same spot

They didn't have a problem with signing up for 2 cycles.. You may want to ask them beforeha

i just finished an IM rotation IN NY with them. in my opinion they are the most genuine and upfront out of all the companies out there. i had a great experience with my preceptor and was able to go to 3 hospitals and 2 clinics, i also worked with 2 other doctors besides my preceptor. great learning experience. the only reason im writing this is because i was also worried about enrolling with them but frankly im glad that i did, and if you are considering them GO FOR IT.

how much did they charge you extra?

it was $1800 with discount. the hospitals are teaching hospitals in brooklyn (east of prospect park) i cant disclose the names apparently, so just google what you find.
and yes the preceptor is board certified and LOR is on a hospital letterhead.

FYI, they gave me a discount for having HIPAA, and for the medical liability insurance I got on my own.

You should contact Peter leone at academic wins or Mike at Dietrich healthcare and get your insurance on your own. its MUCH CHEAPER and you can use it for future rotations at the hospitals you rotate at if you get a 1 year policy.. All of the externship companies just charge more for the same insurance you can get on your own... Just my 2 cents.

PM me if you need more info

Thanks a lot for the info! But a few doubts (which might appear basic and stupid, because i'm not sure about the HIPAA and medical insurance guidelines). Can an international medical graduate coming on a B1 visitors visa get HIPAA and the insurance like how you mentioned? And at a cheaper cost than what Medclerkships provide bundled along with their official price?

Anytime someone has to do the work for you they are going to charge you i would think... Do the work on your own in life and you can probably find it cheaper. Im guessing this is the case but my best advice is to get a 1 year polic no matter what- the 1 month is a ripoff. Insurance companies make money remember that. You will need it for externships in September - January. You can still get interviews and that's probably the best time to be in hospitals. To work around program directors in hospitals. Meet the chairman. Introduce yourself to the attendings and ask if they need anything. Even little things like getting a sick patient water goes a long way. If you just work 7am to 8pm someone will see you and give you credit. Ultimately it's your scores that matter and the edge is interview skills and great LoRs. Btw is anyone starting in ny in August?? PM me if you want to share a room

Wow thank you rumed.. I can't believe I paid them for that certificate. Do you happen to have ANY of the following: BLS, ACLS, infection control , blood borne pathogen , occupational safety certificates?? That would save me alone alot. Thanks man!!!

All inquiries are typically answered within 24 hrs, you can send them to admin@medclerkships.com to speak with one of our coordinators and receive a free consultation from one of our staff of IMG residency consultants.

we typically advise applying 3 months in advance of your desired start date

that being said, we have many programs available with notice of less than a month and immediate placement (in some situations)

what are you interested in?

@SASI

we typically recommend www.ceufast.com

this would be the HIPAA certification needed, you can find more info here:

http://www.ceufast.com/course/hipaa-...e-portability/

if you need further clarification, feel free to respond here or contact us at admin@medclerkships.com

@avanthi

Hi Avanthi, it really depends on the time of year. August/September programs are almost guaranteed to have multiple students, as students scramble to gain their final USCE prior to the ERAS deadline.

I would recommend our Atlanta programs for this time of year, as the class sizes are almost guaranteed to be smaller and the experience offered is of the same quality as our NYC program.

@littlehair

Typically, this program has 1-2 students enrolled at a time. Regarding hospital quality, this is an ACGME accredited teaching hospital.

The only issue with this program is the fact that there is little public transportation and we recommend that students have their own transportation.

Default Pathology externship in DC

@MedClerkships

Is the hospital in a safe area?

Does the preceptor usually provide strong letter of recommendation?

@littlehair

Actually yes, the hospital is in a very safe suburban location. This particular preceptor does indeed provide a strong performance-based LOR, stress on performance-based because the LOR will reflect the nature of your experience and your aptitude.

Default NYC Externship

Im also interested in any recent NYC externship experience with them. On the phone they said that for IM hospital days are only 2-4 out of the week. In reality, how many days a week did you guys spend at those hospital? Do you do rounds? Do you get to stick around the hospital afterwards / put in extra hours if you so desire, or are you attached to your preceptor at all times and no longer welcome once he or she leaves that facility?

Thanks
