Unhappy Int med student elective without step 1 -HOW?

Hi,
I'm a medical student in the 5th year (6 year course) trying to get an elective placement, i started searching and requesting 2 months ago to no avail. I'm starting to get a little desperate, I read somewhere that it is easy to get one, well, what i'm i doing wrong? how do i get an elective?
Btw, i plan to write step 1 later this year, in september. so i dont have step 1 yet, it's been a little difficult. Any help? which hospitals dont require step 1 and take non-affiliated international medical students :sorry:

I recomend you take the TOEFL exam as soon as you can. Harvard, Yale and Brown accept international students without USMLE but require the TOEFL and are expensive options.
Good luck!

Well it really depends on your school and how much faith you have in their elective placement process.

For me personally, I waited a couple of months and got fed up. It was costing me more in time and stress waiting for my school to place me - most likely with no choice of where to go. I ended up signing up for a paid medical elective.

All I had to do was fill out my schools clinical affiliate form and I got my credits processed easily. Have you looked into any paid service??

Unhappy Same boat

I have been searching, requesting and applying for the last 5 months, no replies and most places are not offering in the department I want. It's turning out to be very stressful. I'll be giving S1 in winter.

getting electives in US is becoming more and more difficult these days specially without step 1..giving toefl is okay but the no of programs that take img into electives is limited without having done with step 1..i am saying this from my personal experience..i wasted 6-7 months in this process and cudnt get any electives and also cudnt concentrate on step 1 properly..i recommend you to focus on step 1 so that u have more options
