Question Prepping for electives

How are you guys prepping for electives?

I just got done with Step 1 so my clinicals aren't that good. I didn't really focus a lot on wards because I was busy with Step 1.

Besides learning to take a focused history and do relevant examinations, is there anything else I should focus on before going for electives?

Thanks.

Default Advise for electives prep

I`m going to do the same - take the Step 1 in august, then doing some electives in the US. After glancing different sources I`ve picked the next literature:
1. Pocket Medicine: The Massachusetts General Hospital Handbook of Internal Medicine - in my opinion, a so-called "medical wikipedia" with correct and up-to-date information. New edition will be available in august.
2.
Step-Up to Medicine - a great book to gain clinical knowledge and also to get prepared to Step 2 ck

3. USMLE Step 2 CS Core Cases - if you didn`t have any previous US experience, this book is just for you.

If you have an opportunity, a good choice would be some night duties in an ICU.

This works for me, think, will help you too.

Network as well as you can. You would be surprised how many connections you can make during your clinical electives. I slacked off but alot of my friends that kissed butt in rotations matched at the same hospital. You'd be surprised how much who you know can help you in the long run.

I will apply through a provider company - that would be a paid elective.
Unfortunately I had no success in direct applying to any clinic(

Usually clinics will take you if doctor is nice as he can use the help as well. Hospitals and big university externship programs require you to have great usmle board scores. I contacted every single externship company doing mine in New York City right now. Send me a PM if you need help.
