Question Psychiatry during internship

I am currently doing internship in India. Is it true that during intership we have to do 1 month (30 days) of psychiatry in order to be eligible for USMLE?

Even I had the same doubt when i started my internship......But its not needed...I did only fifteen days...Lot of my seniors who did fifteen days matched this year and the previous year...so i dont think so its a requirement..

It's a requirement by the Medical Board of California, is if you are planning to match or practice later in California, you need at least 4 weeks of psych rotation.

StepTaker,

I've done 4 weeks of rotation in psych at my parent college. I'm from Terna Medical College, Navi Mumbai (India) and one of my seniors told me that we(students from our college) can't apply for residencies in the west coast. She herself doesnt know the reason. Firstly is it true and if true what is the reason ?

Thanks,
Faisal K.

It's not true.

Your college is listed as an approved medical school by the Medical Board of California, you can find it here
http://www.mbc.ca.gov/applicant/scho...ognized.html#i

The only reason is the psychiatry requirement that is mentioned in this thread, if you have done 4 weeks then you are good to apply.

However, and that's a big however, California and the West Coast in general is not IMG-Friendly, the reason is that American Grads love to go there and so it's difficult to compete with them.
