I am a little confused on how this works..I sent my application and received their email saying my application is being processed and is pending. They also said they would contact me via email within such and such dates (tomorrow would be their deadline) and also via airmail "when we have received your approval from the department/s related to your request of an elective".

They also wrote "if you receive your letter of acceptance via email, you will be expected to send in your completed application..." etc etc

I'm sorry i'm writing all this but I kinda got confused with the process here. And I would like to hear from them because if I don't get accepted I will send an application somewhere else.

Are they precise with their deadlines? Will I hear from them within the date I have been told? Do they notify you also in case of NOT being accepted?

Thank you everyone

For cornell the process is like this....first they will give u email that ur application is recieved, then after a few days they will email u that ur application is processed....then after that they might reject u or give acceptance...sometimes they dont reply until 2 months before start date of electives as they keep a few applications on waiting list...

Its always better to apply in 3-4 different electives programs...

NIH, UAB, NYU, NSLIJH, Case western, LSU, Memorial sloan ketring cancer center, Cleveland Clinic or research at Hopkins

P.S its tough to get into free or cheap places and also may require step 1. Best of Luck.

If u can spend big bucks then go for Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Brown Alpert or Mount sinai.

Chicago Clerkship is also a paid externship if you want to try.

well my friend its no rocket science....Deans letter, transcripts, CV, personal statement, Immunization record, travel/health insurance and Malpractice insurance these are the things almost all programs will ask for and for most you have to air-mail all this.

Just google all the names i have posted before with the word electives at the end and you will find all the detail on their respective websites...

You might be late for most programs as they want you to apply 6 months before the desired start date and not after that but incase of Harvard they want you to apply within 6 month before start date and not before that so you can try your luck there...also u can try UAB as i don't think they have any kind of timeline and also research electives at Hopkins.

Please do check their websites by yourself first. Best of luck!

Hmm.. Ok!!! Im stull not sure what to do.
But I'll first check out the sites you've mentioned. And then can I get back!?
All those CV..personal statement.. Etc will be done after they've agreed to give us the elective??
I'll probably just have to write a mail first asking them to allow me to an elective first???
Have you done any elective anywhere already?

All the stuff that I have mentioned must be ready with you all the time if you want to find electives...yes do check their websites they are pretty much straight forward instructions on all. There is a great chance that you will get into Harvard if you apply on time.
Yep.

But I heard Harvard is a lot of money.. I'm not willing to spend so much.

All these hopistals you mentioned.. Are they IMG friendly?

This attachment below is what I found for LSU... Is this what I should be looking for in other university sites as well.?
Attached Files
File Type: pdf Visiting_Student_App.pdf (47.6 KB)

Chances of getting electives are highest in nov-feb period
Intermediate chances in march-june period
Very low chances in july-oct period
peds is always easy to get than IM
in most of NYC med schools IMGs and AMGs compete for same elective spot(there are 1-2 spots per department)
med schools in NYC that will offer u electives are NYU, mount sinai, Memorial sloan ketring cancer center, sunny downstate, Cornell, kings brook and NSLIJH...apply in all if possible...best of luck..

When you say.. Chances are high of getting electives in Nov to Feb... Do you mean if we apply in these months for electives( to do in other months)... Or if we apply to do electives in these months...

i meant if you applied for these months. so you would be applying at least 6 months before the nov-feb period for the nov-feb period.

Did you apply yourselves or you applied via other companies?
If you did it yourselves, would you please give me the related link? Thank you.
