Question timing my electives to max. benefit

Hi,
I am an IMG, have not yet taken my step1. I plan to apply for electives during OCT-DEC 2011. I want to have approximately 3 months of USCE. My problem is that I don't know which place to apply when.. the places like harvard, nih, have specified dates for their electives. I dont want to spent twelve to fifteen days doing nothing between my electives, as it'll cut short my working days.. any suggestions how to avoid this? also should I apply for one subject for three different dates, or should I apply for different specialties in the same month?

You have to keep looking for Universities until you find the fitting schedule.

It's better to stick to one specialty as this will tremendously increase your chances in the match later on.
