Question Americlerkships or FMG Portal

Hello

I wanted to know which one of the two is better? Can people who have done this before give some insight into americlerkship or fmg portal?

I am planning to go for one of the two in may next year.. Wanted your inputs.

I got to know about usmleforums recently and i am glad i got to know.
cheers to all

once i also had the same questions
okie so here's what i have found out-
1-my kaplan live prep course coordinator recommended americlerkship's
2-i have found out about doing extensive research on net that even though fmg portal seem to provide externship's for less money but in the end they add so many extra charges that it ends up being more!!

so,i have also joined americlerkships and will be doing externship with them in next year.if u have any doubt don't hesitate to ask.

I enquired about americlerkship and even my kaplan guides told me to take it up especially in chicago or new jersey or atlanta and not anywhere else.

i am planning to enroll for the medtrack 20 program.

First is step 1 by jan end..

thank you for the reply

Visit Americlerkship.org and you ll get the tariff..

Sometimes it feels its not worth it but seeing the larger picture, i feel its really worth paying about 8000$ for a medtrak 20 weeks program..

Because u get 3 weeks of one subject plus 2 weeks of electives of your choice..

I dont know what fmg portal offers...

Default Check our poll

You might also have a look on this poll
http://www.usmle-forums.com/externsh...hips-imgs.html

In that poll you can see how many votes FMG Portal and Americlerkships have got.

Hello, we do offer rotations that will give you the opportunity to network with attendings and this can certainly aid in getting matched. A teaching hospital is a facility which has a direct residency program affiliation so yes we offer programs like this as well, it is our teaching hospital guarantee program.

Of course your ability to do well during the course of your program is going to directly affect your ability to gain a strong recommendation for your application to residency. There are certainly these opportunities during the course of your training depending on where you are doing your rotations (which geographical area)

Im confused as to whether to go with IMG prep or Americlerkships. which one is better? does anyone have personal experience they can comment on, and guide me which one to choose? I think both places are great, i just dont know which one to choose! (im still trying to figure out if i can afford either place, but first want to choose which place!)

HI,i have 3 questions,thank u if answer,
1-i havent taken any steps, will do 1 in Aug,can i apply for these hands on now or i must /better wait?

2-is it wise to go for hands on in competitive field like surgery,gynecology.. (that r my goal)to increase my chance to be matched in my goals,or it s not wise and i will even loose the chance of IM and other doable residencies..?(i ,my self think about doing both..)

3-do u have information about free observership/hands on courses offerd by some universities?

thank you so much if guide me..

Hello how are you? Please contact me right away at molly.fraser@americlerkships.org

If you want to start in August now is not too soon, in fact mid May would be considered late in the year for registration. Positions for hands on experience in the summer months before September fill up far in advance.

You will want to gain experience in the specialties you are applying to. Your experience and recommendations should be relevant to the experiences you will have during residency.

I unfortunately do not have information on observerships; this is outside our scope of practice. I look forward to helping you

Hi, I have the very same questions as the person above. I take my step 1 in a month, and look to get some USCE in specific fields. Is it better to do that after step 1 or step 2?
would you rather i PM or email you?
Thanks.

I am answering you on our website now as well It is advised for you to take your step 1 first as this could improve your experience with your attending, it is not a requirement though.

US medical students complete step 1 then complete a number of weeks in core rotations prior to their CK or CS exams, so we suggest starting a hands on experience prior to your CK or CS exam.

I hope this answered your question.
