Rheumatology/Orthopedics Ortho. and anaesth. electives?

Wat abt orthopedics or anaesthesiology? I mean residencies in either? Would an elective in either be just a waste of time and money? In other words should i forget abt residency in such specialities?

Default Forget ortho but anesthesiology is OK

Orthopedics is extremely difficult and for all practical purposes it's better if you forget about it if you are an IMG.

For anesthesiology you have some chance but you need to get high scores and do some USCE and good LoRs.

Thank u Sabio, so u think it is better for me as IMG to do anesthesiology elective than ortho. ? And could u tell me where i can do such elective and get LOR? Another question regarding the name of univeristy..does it make a difference? Wat abt NYU for example?

Thumbs Up to be realistic

Yes I think doing an anesthesiology elective is more realistic for an IMG.

Where to get them? search universities websites and contact them.

Does the name make a difference? Other than Harvard, John Hopkins, Mayo Clinic all others are the same and they are all good. NYU is certainly a prestigious name here in USA.
