can anyone tell what's the best time to apply for clinical electives? Is it when all the steps( step 1, step 2ck and step 2 cs) are taken? or one can apply when any one the steps(either step 1 or step 2 ck) are taken....and is there any hard and fast rule for visa status....

Best time
You have to apply as long as you're still a medstudent...and many of them require you to be in the last year(ie 6th year in a 6 year programme,or internship year in some countries).Make sure you have your step 1 and TOEFL ready.

thanks...but what about for an IMG....is clinical clerkship is necessary for an IMG, too? I'm asking because I am an IMG and I am already a doctor back in my country with an experience of one year of internship prog. Can I use those certificates to apply for it? I'm sorry, if I'm bothering you but I have a very little idea about this thing....

Not clerkship,externship
Now I also only started my quest so this is from the info I have...as far as I know after you finish medical school your are no longer eligible for clerkships, only paid externships (hands on) and observships. The list here is only for clerkships. Usually a different department deals with graduates for those two. You have to look threads in the forum about those, there are quite a few useful links for this.

hello! i am a medical student from out side of U.S.A. I know this might be too much to ask, but, does anyone know if there is a school that does not require neither Step 1 nor TOEFL and nor a "student is his/her last year of medical school".
I am planning on taking the elective before my last year. i would appreciate any input. thanks

Guys this is really depressing. I checked out all the websites . Baylor doesn't offer electives for IMGs right now. Seems like there's always something missing like for example where am I supposed to get letters of recommendation in my home country for the elective from? Also some require completion of clerkships. some need sponsors. the thing is I wont be finished with psychiatry by summer time but i would be finished with everything else..some don't fit the calendar ie you can't do them in the summer....any idea where is a decent place to do electives that isn't complicated? I have Step1 and TOEFL scores and I'll be done with almost all the clerkships except psychiatry :S any ideas....or help on what I should do? Seriously how did you guys do this?
