Help Help Regarding Internship Details

I am about to start my internship in a few months in the same hospital under my medical school and I wanted to know whether there is any pre-requisite for the USMLE and/or ECFMG in general that a particular student must/should undergo rotation in so & so departments for some particular duration.. is the duration already fixed or whatever the medical school decides is alright?
Please help me since this is my first time and I am planning to write MLE after i graduate.
I have heard the USMLE requires students to undergo 4 weeks of psychiatry rotation internship and then only can he/she be eligible for the exam

Please help

Arrow It's OK

All Internal Medical Schools Internships are accepted by the ECFMG.

The psychiatric rotation you mentioned is only required by the Medical Board of California for further details read here http://www.usmle-forums.com/residenc...how-apply.html

Smile Thanks

Fine, then whatever my hospital/school decides and puts on the internship certificate that will do for ECFMG or USMLE .

Oh so psych is only required for California and no other states. So suppose my college does not have that compulsory psych rotation then I won't be eligible as per the Medical Board of California but I shouldn't be having problems in any other states right..

Thanks

Sorry to interrupt, but do we have to send the internship certification to the ECFMG? Last time I heard it was not necessary at all.

No. You don't need to send it. You send only the transcript which should include your internships details.

Hi ,

Please clarify , so we do not need to submit the internship completion certificate. As you mentioned, my official medical school transcript contains internship details, such as total duration but the exact date for each rotation is not given. It only says internship total duration, start date, end date, and total recommended hours for each posting. is it true that for state medical licensees you need to specify exact dates of your internship rotations?

No, you don't need to send in the internship completion certificate. I've participated in the last match and it was not requested. When you begin applying in the match, you will be requested to send in certain documents. You cannot send additional documents. The requested documents are: medical school diploma (final certificate), medical school transcript, medical student performance evaluation (or Dean's Letter), and letters of recommendation (if any).

thanks for your prompt reply..
the issue with me is that my internship completion certificate is lost, so do you think that there is any need for me to request my university to issue another certificate (my college is making this complicated and asked me to come there in person to request it- booking an international ticket just to collect this seems ridiculous) . As you mentioned , it is not required by ECFMG but do you need it when you apply for state boards? Also in the state board application when they ask postgraduate training (my internship was done prior to receiving my final diploma) , does that include our medical school internship or is it just our residency? thx again
