Resident Internal Medicine Electives for IMGs

Is there a convention that IMGs don't get internal medicine branches electives easily, but dermatology and radiology is feasible? I am planning to do Gastroenterology later. Is it too competitive to get an elective in GE??

I think it depends on what school / service you use... if you're at a Carib school it shouldn't be a problem. If you're not - ask someone who goes to a carib school They usually know people...

Electives are different from Residencies.
To get an elective in IM is more difficult than others because many many students want to do it.

I think everyone but me understood you were talking about subspecialization or fellowships and not electives.

Some of those are harder to get than others - traditionally - the hardest two are GI and Cardio - other ones are easy for some, hard for others, but one that has been popular especially with IMGs recently has been Pulmonology and or critical care.

You have plenty of time to figure all this out - i wouldn't worry now...
