Program Directors Observership with PD what to ask before leaving

Hello ,
I am doing observership in a hospital in Internal medicine ward for 1 month. Luckily my attending physician is the PD of internal medicine of that hospital.
Most of the time I actually do work with residents. I did not talk that much with that PD. But he sees me every day as I always present in the morning session, morning round, teaching sessions in evening.
Beside this I don't get a chance to talk with him. Recently I presented a case in morning session and he appreciated very much. Now problem is that , they take lots of IMG's but a specific ethnic group mostly (Please don't ask me the hospital name or that ethnic group) but I'm not from that ethnic group.
But as I worked there for 1 month .... I hope I can talk at least few minutes with that PD ...
PLEASE ADVISE WHAT QUESTION SHOULD I ASK HIM ABOUT THEIR PROGRAM AND MY CHANCES BEFORE I FINISH MY OBSERVERSHIP THERE ???? Doesn't matter they offer anything or not in future .... I need to try my best level ... ..... Please advise me ....

Default Here's a plan for you

It's good that you showed yourself on several occasions and am sure that he now remembers you very well. Now here's a plan for you;

Make an appointment with him (via his secretory), ask for "Exit Interview". Don't just talk to him on the go, it must be in his office and he must give you his full attention, otherwise it won't work.

In that interview you tell him how extremely useful was the rotation and that you learned a lot from him and from the residents and other staff.

Ask him this
"What are the things that I need to do to improve my chances in getting a residency match next year? How do I improve my clinical skills and knowledge to enhance my matching profile"

Note, that I did not say "matching in your program", just matching in general.

Do not ask him specifically about your chances with his program.

Towards the end of the interview ask him this;
"Would it be possible to get a recommendation letter from you?" if he refuses then don't insist, just leave him.

Carry with you your CV in a leather folder and show it to him. Ask him if you can leave a copy of your CV with him. If you think that's difficult then at least leave a copy of your CV with the secretory.

At the very end of the interview, ask him for his business card or his email and ask him for permission to contact him in the future if you need advice. Then later on you can contact him and see if he can get you an interview.

Also don't forget to keep in contact with the residents and other attendings there. Like for example sending them "happy 4th of July" email or stuff like that.

These steps should maximize your chances of getting an interview in that program.

Wishing you good luck ...

Thank You very much ... Because I was confused how to approach him at the end of rotation ... Now I got an idea ... I hope I will get an LoR from him .... I already gave them my CV, Personal Statement and Step scores before starting observership .......

Thank you again ....

Another point I remembered.

If you have the time to do it. Offer him that you are willing to stay longer (or come later on) and volunteer as research assistant or any other volunteering opportunity.

The longer you stay in that residency program the higher your chances of getting an interview.
