I'm doing an observership soon and I know that it's not guaranteed that I will get any LORs but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to increase my chances of doing so. Is it better to ask in person towards the end of the observership or is it better for me to contact the director afterwards and ask for one via email? (I'm probably not applying this year but I might use the LORs to apply for a fellowship beforehand so I won't be asking anyone to upload the LOR directly but rather keep it and upload it myself when I do finally apply.)

I would say to be upfront and ask them towards the end of your observership. Tell them that you had a great experience and that you are very grateful. Also, you can give them your CV also for more info. And, I don't think you will be able to upload an LOR by yourself, It has to be done by the person who created the LOR and they have to sign into their AMA account and stuff
