Post Extended internship for electives

Hello everyone, i need sincere and frank suggessions from you guys, please tell me, i have posponed my internship to do electives, but i didnt get any.IIam planning to give step 1 dis oct-2014, which means with result result i can apply in niovember for electives,means i may get 6months later electives anywer.Then it will be like more than one year gap since i extende my internship,i wanna know is this risky or i can wait,bcoz people may ask me what for dis much gap in you internship at the end.SO totally confused what could be my step.All suggessions welcomed,kindly help me, and onemore thing i will be getting dependent visa soon,so no problem for VISA.

Extending the internship for six months with the hope of getting an elective might not be a very smart move. If you had already got acceptance for an elective, then extending the internship might have made more sense. Sure the chances for obtaining electives do increase with step 1 results in hand but you can never be 100% certain. So it's up to you I guess. Extending the internship as such is not risky, you just might have to give a convincing answer at the time of interviews if the topic comes up.
