Hello everyone, This is my first post and hope I might get some feedback/advice from someone out there.

I'm an AMG from one of the better schools in the Boston area. I graduated in 2008. Prior to going to med school I did basic research for 2 years and was able to publish 2 papers and an abstract which I presented at an annual international conference. Received a paid research fellowship between 1st and second year at a Harvard hospital. I then worked in Biotech/medical device company in the clinical department for 2 years. I applied 3 times to med school and got in on the third try.

Med school: never failed a course, mostly passes with a handful of high passes. Took year off after 3rd year due to burn out I guess and pursued clinical research again as I wasn't sure what I really wanted to do. got good experience and made good money for that year.

Finished 4th year did well made bad choice to enter biotech again due to many life factors. Been in biotech on the clinical side for 4 years am now 38 y/o. took step 1+200 failed step 2 and now badly want to pursue clinical medicine as a "real doctor" I'm studying for step 2 now and hope to do well and plan to apply for the 2013 match.

Believe it or not that's the short version!

I do have a few docs in positions with influence that have expressed interest in helping me.

Please give me some advice and or feedback. Thanks very much

Although your score is low and you have red flags in your story such as the one year drop out and the failed CK attempt, nevertheless, I think your research experience will pay off at the time you apply.

You may not shoot for the competitive residencies but certainly you can get into the mediocre stuff such as Internal Medicine or even General surgery.

Your Harvard and Boston history would certainly wipe off your other red flags.

Go for it ;)
