Listening 3 bad things ! IMG , low step 1 score , applying late

hello every one , hope yall do great with this matching season .

I'll start with the good part
I graduated 1 year ago !, but here's the issue

step 1 score 211
CS - pass
CK - pending (all 1st attempt)

I have 2 months USCE and 3 LoRs in IM.
and i dont have a visa status .

ofc the problem now is I'll probably apply late this season (Oct) max cuz i need to boost my ck score , what are my chances of getting interviews this season with the above data , and what specialty i should aim for
( all in my mind i can do is the following )
  • psych
  • IM
  • peads
  • pathology

obviously i have to direct my CV towards 1 specialty but that incase i didnt get matched this year i'll boost it with step 3 and research hopefully . so lets talk about my chances this year in these three , IM , psych and peads.

what do you doctors recommend ? and thank you .

Star Advice

Well, It really depends on what you would like to do.

I would work on strengthening you application for sure. You can apply or not, it really is up to you. The main thing is focus on improving your scores (Step 2CK and Step 3). You have finished with CS which is a huge gold star. I would consider taking Step 3 soon if you scores are not stellar. Study extremely hard to boost your Step 3 score. It is true that a lot of programs focus on the Step 1 score, however they look at the whole package (step 1/2/cs/3).

I would consider working on research in an area you are interested psyc/IM/peds. Another thing to boost your application is to get LoR from programs you are very interested in. I think focusing on Family medicine/IM/or Peds would be a great start just depending on your interests. The main thing is to get some publications/LoR/experience in those areas to have a more favorable application. I would also apply very broadly across the US.

I hope that is a helpful start,
