May i know the fee for a five week coreplus clerkship...i would like IM/ICU
Hi, I would like to know the fee for 5 weeks as well, but for the GenSURG/ER combo. Thanks!
I have recently just enrolled at Future-Doc Enterprise, in Chicago for an externship in General Surgery and it is much more than I expected it to be. I have heard a lot before about externships being an experience where you follow around a doctor like you are their shadow. However, this is nothing like that, thankfully!
I spend my days at the hospital getting to actively see and talk to patients and their families. I find so useful because as an IMG, because I wanted to make sure that I am as effective in developing a good rapport here in the USA like I did during my training. Also, the doctor I am paired with personally asks and takes into consideration my thoughts about course of treatment and management for the patients we encounter. I prefer this so much more than just being told what to do. This experience really allows me to have a more concrete view of what life will be like later on and the decisions we will need to make, and not just being spoon feed. In addition, I have assisted in cases and procedures that I haven’t encountered before which has made me enjoy this opportunity even more.
I truly think this is a great experience for anyone who likes to have a more hands on experience and a good transition to develop the skills needed to work here, like working with electronic records, interacting with the staff and being more acquainted with the hospital life.
Highly recommend that you get in touch with them too if you are looking for a similar experience also.

Future doc enterprises rocks!!!
YESSS U guys should read my post. I am just finishing my clerkships right now I am SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!! She (Dr. Johnson) really truly can make anything Happen!! Just call she will work with you.
Let me start with this most frequently asked question...
1.As an IMG, what are we expecting out of an "externship" ?
- Meaningful hands - on clinical experiecne
- Getting comfortable with electronic medical records
- Gaining confidence to handle patients independently
- To work in both office and inpatient setting
- Preferably in a community hospital / an ACGME accredited hospital
- Affordability in terms of cost
- Most importantly a guarenteed "strong and well written LOR"
If you agree with most of the points mentioned above, then externship with future-docs will be the best fit.
I had my externship with Dr.J, future docs in may 2014. It was an enriching experince. I was allowed to take care of 10-12 patients every day at the office, work on electronic medical records, had opportunity to see in-patients at a community hospital in chicago and all for a reasonable price (when compared to other externships). There was even more to it. Dr. J used to pick me up and drop off sometimes when it gets late from work, making sure I reached safe .She was easily approchable at any time on phone. She was also willing to help me out in getting some meaningful research at the UIC if I was interested. With future docs, they also help you find accommodation near by your work place incase you dont find one/ enroll too late that you may not find one.I am really glad that I had this wonderful opportunity to work with Dr.J.
I can go on and on but if I have to say the top 3 reasons to go for it, it would be:
1.They give you all that they promise on the website
2.A strong, well written, "personalised" letter of recommendation.(Never a generic LOR)
3. Most importantly, the one who runs this future docs is a doctor herself and she understands what exactly we want to help us boost our application for residency. In short, there is no mediator. You are in contact with the doctor herself. So, no fooling around/ miscommunications.
At the end of the day, all I would say is, this externship experience is meaningful and does count !!
