No more papers in ERAS?
by StepTaker 02-07-2013, 02:02 PM

ERAS recently announced that they will no longer accept paper documents for the 2014 matching season.

Recently there has been a shift toward electronic communication and submission in ERAS. Now, there is no more paper documents that you send to ERAS, it's all electronic.

For the LoR, you can use the AAMC LoR portal.
For the MSPE, medical school transcript, photograph, and unwaived LoRs you can use OASIS.
International medical schools can use EMSWP to communicate with ERAS and ECFMG.

Electronic submission is definitely faster than snail mail and this should make ERAS application more efficient.

This new change will take effect starting from the next season (2014 matching season) which starts in July 2013.

The same stands for the IMGs? I already collected all the documents like MSPE and LORs most of them are paper documents and I think I may not be able to get them in electronic copies esp the ones from my home med school and I dont think they will be much interested in contacting ECFMG
I dont have a clue what they r upto

Yes. It's the same for AMGs and IMGs.

But, you don't have a problem. You can upload your "paper" MSPE and medical school transcript electronically via OASIS, you just can't send them by regular mail.

Yes. That's right. You scan the paper and upload it in OASIS.

This looks promising. Hopefully it will save us some of time. But what do you do if your school officials do not know how to operate a scanner?

about LORs

Hi,

I got a question regarding the same ERAS announcement . I have my LORs from US universities, which i collected earlier... however, they are in paper format ... Since i would be applying this year, i.e July 2013 ..

- Do i need to contact my LOR writers again to ask them to rewrite the LORs for me in electronic format or Can i just scan and upload my same paper LORs into ERAS 2014 online ???

Please explain any senior member .

THanx
