Step 1 Changes in Question Pool and Delayed Results
by irakly 03-26-2013, 11:22 AM

There will be another delay in step 1 score for those taking the exam after May 10th, 2013.
They will also modify the question pool.

Here's what they said
Quote:
Score reporting of Step 1 results occurs within four weeks of testing. However, because of necessary modifications to the test item pool, there will be a delay in reporting for some examinees testing beginning the week of May 13th. The target date for reporting Step 1 scores for most examinees testing the week of May 13th through late June will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013. For examinees whose circumstances require that they receive Step 1 scores before July 10, it is recommended that they take Step 1 no later than May 10, 2013.

The NBME frequently changes the questions pool periodically. Experimental questions that proved OK will be added and old questions are removed. This is a routine update that occur every few months.

There's no need to panic.

As far as I know it occurs one time per year (not sure 100%) usually in may and anyway some new questions will be added as well as some will be removed. That is why FA 2011 and 2012 0r 2013 have some differences and UW periodically refreshing qbank but issue is first 2 month during which UW start to releasing new questions

Thank you

P.S This is just my opinion

I dont think there will be a big change in the examination questions. Because USMLE people dont want to screw with future doctors. yeah! definitely there might be some (FEW) changes, but as far as my experience concerns it wont be like a big hell of change ALL OF A SUDDEN!!

Changes occur but slowly! so, unless you are targeting 250+ or 270+ I dont think there's any need to panic. Just be calm and continue with what you are doing!

But if someone comes to know about some new information, we should share!!

My POV!! (Point Of View)
GOOD LUCK!!

The mysterious thing is that : if they want to change necessary items in the question pool items , then why is there going to be a delay in reporting the results >>??

The USMLE score is an automated process that involves mainly software computation.

When you change the pool of questions you need to reset the network and software and then keep testing it until you make sure that things are going alright. Then after that they have to double check the "new" results manually to make sure that the system did not do errors due to the introduction of new items.

Therefore, they can continue at the normal pace when they do those changes, there must be some delays.
